Rocky Mountain High-Pics ***dialup warning***
I traveled the most beautiful 52 miles of Interstate highway
in the country today, IMHO, Vail to Georgetown, CO

I 70 Eastbound just east of downtown Vail

Rest stop near Silverthorne

These two are ascending to the Eisenhower Tunnel (11,116 ft ASL, gasp!
Needless to say, I didn't smoke at that elevation. It's hard enough to
just breath! Hope ya'll enjoy.

10. I used to drive 500 miles a day in NH for App Mtn Club.
Every day I thanked the universe for putting me there. The scenery knocked me out, it is so beautiful. Mountains rule.

16. You got that right
Now, if they could do something about the thin air, the universe would
be complete! 11 grand ASL is tough on this old fart's lungs!

21. Great shots! I've driven through some CO mountain passes...
specifically above Boulder, and was just floored by the beauty. I tried to get some shots but it was very difficult to capture the grandeur. You did a great job!

I'm actually in Denver right now on business. Not nearly as cold as I thought it would be when I arrived mid-day. I'm near Centennial, and it's lovely. But those mountains!

23. IMO, that's the most beautiful stretch of interstate in the US.
Brings back lots of memories for me.

Every year from 1975-1979 myself and bunch of friends from college would take a week's vacation to hit the slopes of Keystone, Copper Mtn, Breckenridge and A-Basin. We would hit Vail on the last day, if we had any money left.

Beautiful pictures, liberaltrucker. Thanks for posting them.

30. It's good to see Lake Dillon is full again
I remember a few years back it was nearly empty 'cause of the drought. I've made that drive through Summit County many times, and it's really nice up there. But, for my money, Berthoud Pass into Grand County is even more beautiful (and nerve racking, three lane road and all). But, you did specify interstate highway, and Highway 40 ain't one of those. Thanks for posting :hi:

32. it is beautiful.
there are many amazing drives in Colorado.

Thanks for the pix!

Hard to believe that over the years, I've had a few periods when I drove that route enough to tire of it. Sometimes I'd fall into that commuter depressed-hate-my-frigging-lot-in-life-hassled-in-a-hurry frame of mind and just have to mentally slap myself and say, "Hey, idiot! Open your eyes!" Our eyes truly are the windows of the soul, and not just for those looking in either.
