1. god yes it does!
After a layoff a few years ago, I worked for a guy that was the WORST. BOSS. EVER. for about 7 months that seemed like years. He was a slave-driving, racist, sexist, ass-hat douchebag pig of a man who had no class, had run about 5 businesses into the ground (so far), and lived way above his means while our paychecks bounced.

I always diplomatically stood up to him for his behavior when he called employees & customers "funny" names and told him he was not allowed to say such things, knowing that eventually he would fire me and I frankly looked forward to the day, and I am normally a fairly loyal and hard-working employee. He would have 5 minute cursing sprees when he broke things like the fax machine, and right in front of customers!

It felt so good to get fired. I called OSHA and Microsoft on him as soon as I got home, and ratted him out for several violations when he tried to not give me my last paycheck. Bastard.

Sorry for venting.

2. I once sicced the NAACP on my boss.
And I was still working there! This was in retail. My boss had told all us salespeople to follow Black people around the store because, in her words, "Black people steal". The next day, two impeccably dressed NAACP people entered the store, found me, and I escorted them to the office. They told my boss, in front of me, that they would fight for me if I was fired. (They were both lawyers).
The store discontinued the practice and I wasn't fired or even treated badly by them after that. That's one of the reasons I always stick up for and support the NAACP.

5. that reminds me
years ago I worked at a very diverse clinical lab.

The breakroom was right next to the HR director's office. the HR director was getting ready to retire. he had worked at the lab since he was in high school in the late 1930's. One day I heard him talking on the phone. He said, " hell no the staff here is all lilly white, anglo saxon protestants." he popped his head into the break room to see who heard him, I was the only one in there at the time and he said, " I've wanted to do that for years".

About an hour later he was escorting a group of very stern looking people from the EEOC through the lab. Apparently they failed to see the funny side of the situation. But they did see people of all sorts of ethnic backgrounds through out the lab.

BTW the HR director was about as far as one can get from being a racist but he did have a pretty warped sense of humor.

6. And working for good people is such a treat
We just got a new manager at our store - after almost a year of having a temporary manager who had no idea what he was doing. The new guy is okay but pretty tough and I had surgery scheduled for within a month of his coming. I'm out for 6 weeks - 4 more to go.

Today I was feeling a little stressed, wondering if I'd still hold my old position when I went back and I called my old manager from a year ago who has another store in the area now. He's such a great guy - told me he's sure I have no worries but if the new guy is "stupid enough to shoot himself in the foot, you will ALWAYS have a place with me."

He's still looking out for me and everyone else in that store even though he's moved on. In today's work climate, that feels so good.
