Do you make your own additions to canned tomato soup?
I usually keep a few cans of tomato soup around the house to use as ingredients in other soups or hotdishes or hot sandwich spreads. I never just eat canned tomato soup. I bought some Campbell's on a good sale last week, and I'm wondering what other people do to dress up plain canned soup. Add your own tomatoes? Herbs? Cheese or sour cream? Worcestershire sauce? What do YOU add?

1. Tomatoes and milk work for that.
But you need a cheese sandwich to go with it. Personally, I prefer non-grilled, just plain bread and butter and cheese.

2. I never ever buy it. Ever.
I do, however, keep plenty o' cans of salt-free, organic diced tomatoes for sauces and whatnot.

:hi:

I don't buy canned tomato soup, actually.

I keep a few cans of Chunky soups, usually clam chowder, on hand just in case I'm hungry and want something quick, but otherwise no processed foods for me.

When I did eat tomato soup from a can I usually added milk, a lot of pepper, and usually a fair amount of thyme.

7. No... and furthermore, I can't stand that commercial... you know the one...
all the happy smiley people adding cutesy ingredients to their tomato soup and the irritating voice singing, "Campbell's Tomato Soup.... Poss-i-bil-i-teeees" AUGH!!!

(This rant will probably kill this thread, so sorry LeftIsWrite.)

10. I heat it with one can skimmed milk, swirl in a dollop of creme fraiche...
top with chopped chives or scallions. The creme fraiche is magic. (I get it at the local gourmet cheese shop.)
You could try sour cream, I guess, although it's got a bit more tangy quality.

14. Roasted onion, garlic and red bell pepper.
If I happen to have a fresh tomato on hand I'll roast it too.

If I'm being really lazy then I just add Mrs. Dash & lots of it. I use the salt free Garlic & Herb.

15. Yep. When I'm really broke
I'll add sauteed garlic, rotini, and white beans and call it a meal (and then eat the leftovers for lunch the next day).

18. Pizza Soup
2 cans tomato soup (prepared as directed on the can)
1 1/2 cups water
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 cups elbow macaroni (or other short pasta such as ditalini or alphabets)
2 green onions, sliced
2 teaspoons dried oregano, plus more for broiling
1/3 cup diced pepperoni
1 cup grated mozzarella
1 cup grated Cheddar

Preheat the broiler.
Put the tomato soup, water, and garlic into a large pot and bring it to a boil over high heat. When it is boiling, add the macaroni, green onions, oregano, and pepperoni and stir well. When the macaroni is cooked, about 6 to 8 minutes, pour the soup into oven safe bowls. Top each with 1/4 cup mozzarella and 1/4 cup Cheddar. Sprinkle on some oregano and put under the broiler until the cheese is bubbling and lightly browned, about 3 to 5 minutes.
