I just saw on the news some of the 'unusual' names Albertans are giving their boys.

yep, Diezelblaze
Tyrant
Rowdy
Corvette
Boss
Ancient... :wtf:

And for a girl...Tequila.

(a couple of years ago, there was an Emperor Phu Lac...)

16. Dunno
Said he liked it. Also told me he didn't get much shit about it. Mostly, people didn't understand it; thought it was "Joel" or a deviation from that. Almost nobody connected it with Superman's dad.

I just googled a bit to see if I could find him. Didn't, but I did find some other Hispanics named Jor-El, so maybe it's a cultural thing.

The Alberta website has lists of every name given, back to 1990.

http://www.governmentservices.gov.ab.ca/vs/top10_names.cfm

Have fun! It's interesting to see that when we named our daughter (Madelyn) in 1990, she was one of only two. Last year there were 18 of them.

31. I don't like this year's list
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 05:15 PM by ironflange
They've sorted it by number of brats per name rather than alphabetically. I'm going to try to rip into the pdf and re-sort it by name. I'll let you know how I make out.

I think the ones named "Baby" must be the ones who left the hospital before getting named. That's my best guess.

The name I really hate is "Neveah," Heaven backwards. It's funny, though, because I saw one from a previous year named "Naveah." The poor, poor kid. Having a strange name is one thing, but having an obviously misspelled one is something else. I'm waiting for someone to name their baby "Lleh."

My name is nearly ten times busier than yours, but it's kinda dull. Your name is really cool.

Yeah, I lucked out in the name department. Having to learn that very young, as well as Mississauga, probably turned me into the good speller that I am. :P

I am a woman and my parents named me "Jeffrey Lee". It was hell as a kid but I have defended it so long I feel kind of protective towards it. They didn't want a boy either. They had one. They wanted a girl and they wanted to name her "Jeffrey". I go by "Lee" online in my Yahoo Groups because I got so fucking tired of having to explain all the time that I am a female. "Lee" is fairly androgynous but even so, better than having to explain every two minutes. Now, at least, it's only occasionally. I go by "Jeff" in RL and on here...Madspirit.

People should really think about what they are doing to their kids before they name them crap names.
