I shouldn't eat them, no telling what they are really made from but they are so good.

22. Real tocos dorados ARE fried (of course we are talking a whole different food here)
But if you go to Mexico and order tacos, you won't get crispy unless you order dorados, and they fry the meat with the shell.

18. They kinda disturb me
Someone told me they were filled w/ beans as opposed to beef (I don't eat beef) so I ate one. It was pretty good but I was disturbed to find out they were supposed to be some sort of meat product in spite of the paste-like consistency of the filling.

25. Old Jack as tacos.
The tacos we are talking about are fried and damn good.

They have been around forever.

I was on way home and passed several Jack in the Boxes, the tacos were calling me.

I now have my fix, I hope.

I do like the breakfast jacks.

34. Target has opened a lot of new stores here.
They built one on the freeway, which was stupid.

We have a mall here with an empty Penny's store which would be prefect for a new Target.

At the mall location people on buses could have gone to the store, on the freeway only people with cars can get there.

My Target is at Memorial City Mall, a really nice location.

It used to be about one mile away, down the freeway.

The store has brought a lot of traffic to the mall.

so I use less. And there's barely any fat in bison meat.

The price is right, too - it's about the same as extra lean ground beef. :hi:

They were really good, very lean.

I don't really think the jack in the box tacos have real meat.

They come frozen and are fried when ordered.

I have been eating them since I was a teenager.

53. Dammit. I saw this thread earlier today, when I peeked in to DU. At 12:35 AM, I
could take it no longer and -- having sort of forgotten to have dinner -- jumped in the car to drive to the nearest (not too near) Jack In The Box for some of these infernal foodlike items. I have long wondered what, exactly lurked inside these fried tortillas, and am not surprised that TVP is a prime ingredient of this paste (or, as I prefer to call it, paté). I guess I can feel a little bit better about eating these alleged tacos, then, given that they're almost sorta vegetarian (in the same sense of those people who claim to be vegetarians except for eating fish, or chicken, or anything but beef).

The food from Jack In The Box has hardly been my favorite of the chains (I used to love a ham and swiss burger they had in 1985, but it vanished off their menu after a while) but was hitting it fairly regularly on the way back from work on the Strip when I was getting off work at anywhere between one and three or four in the morning, because not a lot else was open and convenient. I discovered their salads are pretty good (especially the Chinese chicken salad, though the one from McDonald's has some higher-quality spring mix and is way lower in fat...and I have definitely never been a fan of McDonalds food) and that their chicken fajita pita and southwestern chicken pitas are not only really good (a little expensive for what they are, though) but must be at least halfway decent, nutritionally. And their chocolate malted crunch shake is excellent, albeit a nutritional atrocity that I try to avoid until the shake shakes set in and the only cure for my lactose fever is more cowbell cow product.

Back in the '80s I used to like Burger King's tacos, though I don't think I ever saw them outside of Southern California or, at least, the West. Somehow they seemed closer to a real taco, though similar in concept to the offering at Chez Jacques au Box, and therefore Jack's version may receive at least some edge in my affections for the sheer junkiness of them, the same reason I used to have to eat a Tommy's burger and 'chili' fries once a year when I lived in Los Angeles, like it or not.

Tonight I ate my 'tacos' in the parking lot -- no way I was going to last long enough to get those disgusting little f***ers back to my place -- and the only thing that stopped me from doing a comparison test with Burger King's equivalents is that BK was closed by then (true story...I drove over to the nearest Burger King, prepared to sacrifice my GI tract and chances of sleep to the quest for knowledge). Probably just as well, because I feel bad enough after downing four of those UFOs (Unhealthy Foodlike Objects)...I usually, on those rare occasions when the urge grabs me, stop at two.

I generally tend to not eat a lot of fast food. If the subliminable suggestions of DUers drives me to a six-taco-a-day Jack In The Box habit, I'm blaming it on a Vast left-Wing Conspiracy... :grr:

Here's to Life, Liposuction, and the pursuit of Cholesterol.
