I just filled out my annual self evaluation at work
My manager will then fill out an evaluation of my job performance the past year. Goals, expectations, tasks accomplished. We will then sit down together and compare the two.

This isn't going to be great. Probably because I'm not sure I really care about this job anymore.

Gosh, what fun. But at least I have a job, I suppose.

1. Wow, that sounds really annoying.
Glad I don't have to do such pointless shit, sorry you do.

3. It's a mandatory part of my soul sucking job.
I work in an environment that reeks of corporate bullshit. This is part of it.

Thanks for the sympathy.

4. I was honest
I suspect that I'm NOT going to get a huge raise this year.

I wish I could give myself an A+.

6. Give yourself a little higher than you're tempted to, then.
Otherwise, you might be a little too hard on yourself. Toot that horn! :bounce:

5. I've had to do this in every job I've had
including the Air Force...and I hate it...still not comfortable with any of the variations of the same system I've seen.

I really hate it, although I usual get a stellar review (the worse thing has been coming in tardy on occasion)

8. Be careful...
Mr Borlis did his recently and given the economy right now and other things he factored in, the major one being the company has major quality problems, he figured his sales forecast for this year to be less than last year, AND HE GOT FIRED! I guess he was suppose to lie and maybe he'd still be working there. Oh well, he found a new job that he likes better and when he has been in touch with people from his old place, he is told that nothing has changed since they let him go.

Good luck! :hi:

9. I have to do this in late spring
I have a photocopy of the one I did last year, so I'll just put down the same exact things (did this last year too).

10. I don't understand the whole self-evaluation concept. I mean,
when you say you can improve on this or that, you open yourself up to them saying, "see, you need some improvement before we can give you more money or promote you."

Right?

Just evaluate me and allow me to respond if I feel I need to.

It's like having to fill out a self evaluation about how you think you drive to the insurance company to help them to come up with their premium for you!

It's dumb.

11. I totally agree with you...
I work for a right-wing family owned bank and we have to fill out a self evaluation, too. It makes no sense to me, because everyone just receives a standard 3-5% raise. Nothing more...

13. So dumb and worthless.
My direct report and the CEO decide on raises long before we turn in this stupid self-assessment anyway, so it's a total waste of time. The funny part is that my last review was stellar when I know my performance has been no better or worse than any other year. And in every other year I got the same stupid negative reports from my boss. So what changed? Well, the only think I can figure is that I should've been promoted at least a year or two ago and it's never going to happen (there's a major girl's club here where only women who will gossip and backstab each other yet kowtow like good girls to the CEO are ever promoted). But since a few of my designs have been big sellers, they think that giving me a glowing review will keep me from quitting. At least until they've gotten what they want out of me and they can fire me.

Can you tell I love my job? :eyes:

12. I'm not big on being evaluated on my ability to read the mind of my boss
Rate myself too high and they think I'm either bragging or have an unrealistic view of the job. Rate myself too low and I have to tell them why (and introduce new reasons I'm a lousy employee.) Just tell me what you want me to improve and don't waste my time. :grr:

14. I Never Have To Do That
Thank God. All federal government employees in Canada are unionized, so we don't have to rely on performance appraisals in order to get a raise. Raises are written into our collective agreements. Although it sometimes burns my ass to see colleagues doing nothing all day while I bust my ass, but yet they receive the same salary as I do. I'm convinced that unionization is a double edged sword. It rewards those who work hard, but also those that ride along on the coat tails of people like me. I kind of resent that from time to time.

16. Personally, I never minded doing them. It always felt like a nice check in
with my supervisor to focus on what was giong well, what wasn't, and what each other's expectation are.

Fortunately, now that I work per diem, I no longer have to fill out that pointless BS.
