Sad news here in Philly, Tugger closed out game 6 of the 1980 World Series and won the Phillies our only championship.

Tug also helped the Mets by leaving. The Mets got longtime catcher John Stearns and centerfielder Del Unser for him from the Phills in a 6-man trade both sides no doubt were happy with.

Tug led the Mets down the homestretch in 1973. His signature rallying cry was, "You gotta believe!" We'll never forget him.

7. He is one of my all time favorites.

I still remember him in "Kiner's Korner" in flip flops and a motorcycle helmet, smoking a big old cigar. He was definitely one of a kind.

All the hoohah about Pete Rose's admission that he gambled on baseball made me think back to the '73 playoffs between the Reds & the Mets. I remember when Pete clocked Buddy Harrelson (I've hated Pete since that day - Bud was my hero when I was 8). And now we hear Tug's dead...
