Red plaid
Yup. I said it. Red plaid. My soon-to-be 13-year-old son has said he wants a pair of red. plaid. pants.

And then tonight...I went to drop off some food for #2 son (band was playing for a home basketball game) and he's standing there wearing a red baseball cap, a bright yellow jersey, black and white shorts (that reached his knees) and red baseball socks (that also reached his knees.

My eyes still hurt.

These are my children.

I was just putting roasted almonds in my mouth, now I'm wiping my face off and luckily wasn't close enough to my laptop to put it in danger!

6. I wish
At least then he'd be looking at pastels.

He wants RED. Plaid

Seems to think that it's retro and, therefore, cool.

God help us all.

He came home today with a pair of duct-taped Converse high-tops.

He's making a 'statement'.

9. Kids...
You gotta love 'em. My STB 16-year old daughter went through a stage where all of her clothes had to have safety pins through 'em. Now she dresses more conventionally, although she still wears her pink Chuck Taylor's with doodles all over them. My 13-year old would wear the same clothes day after day if I'd let him, and he'll keep wearing a shirt even though he outgrew it a while back -- just because he likes it.

Can't wait to see what the STB 6-year old and my 7-year old have in store when they get a bit older. :-)

12. Whew....I'm glad mine isn't the only one.
My daughter doesn't do the safety pin thing -- yet -- but she was furious with me today because I wouldn't let her go to an appointment in what was, in essense, her pajamas. She'd slept in them.

(she didn't want to make the appointment, anyway)

:eyes:

And I'm thinking about caving on the plaid pants just so that Buzzard-butt will wear something other than the same two pair of jeans.

For a day, anyway.

#1 son went through an all black phase when he was in middle school...but dresses normally now. He's 23, though. And my youngest still wears what I lay out for him.

Usually.

13. what's wrong with red plaid pants?
i'd get a pair if my backside weren't so big. i also have a pleated red plaid mini-skirt that looked damn good on me until i gained some weight.

ya know, plaid starts to look weird if you look at it too long

14. Heh...it does.
I bought my daughter a red plaid skirt a few years ago...it was cute. She hated it. And when I was a kid (way back in the 60s and early 70s) I had a gold plaid skirt. And I think I might have even had plaid pants, too.

Particularly when my imagination is focused on lovely ladies.

However I must take issue with this comment about you and short not going together well. My impression is quite the opposite!

16. I've always been a Levis, dark colored t-shirt guy
My brother is a turtleneck, sport coat with patches on the elbows type guy. Mom still likes to buy us clothes even though we're in our mid 40's and my rule for her is that if she's looking at something to buy for me, if my brother would like it that means I won't.

21. My rule when it comes to buying clothes for my kids is
if I hate it, they'll love it. So I compromise. I buy stuff that I don't particularly like -- they wear it.

Three of the five own tuxedos, though. And wear them (although only because they have to).

17. We've been through many a phase at my house.
My son likes to wear things until they fall apart or are WAY too small - anything to avoid shopping for clothes.
His sisters like things that I can never guess. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I think they're hideous. So I just go along and pay the bill.
My oldest daughter got my son (the baby) a couple of shirts for xmas that I had to just hope nobody would think I got him. One said
"My shitty attitude is none of your fucking business" and the other said something like "New York Fuckin' City". Of course, he
loved them. I had to admit they were funny...sigh. At least he decided against the mohawk. I am hoping he will GET A JOB this summer and that would
probably not help.

22. Yup.
Sounds like my kids. #2 son bought some 'iffy' shirts when he went shopping for school clothes...then wonders why his teachers give him questioning looks.

DUH! Think about it, boy.

25. He got them in Camden Market, London
He also had a matching jacket.
At the same time he was into this look our daughter was into Goth.

We once had a homeless man pushing a shopping cart pass our family and say
"Look at those kids, where did they go wrong"

I mean...she is going with a feminine theme. Sounds like it could be pretty. At least it's not pink plaid fatigue pants and jump boots.
