Tomorrow afternoon isn't going to be much fun.
Because tomorrow morning, I have an hour and a half session with a new Therapeutic Massage lady (who happens to be our neighbor as well).

Hey, before you start thinking "All right, then, a 90-minute backrub," remember that terms like "deep tissue" and "trigger point" therapy involve elbows being driven into sensitive areas.

And the last Therapeutic Massage guy I hired was working on the scar-tissue adhesions in my shoulder as well. Ouch.

In the long run, it should prove to be beneficial, so it'll be worth it.

But tomorrow afternoon, I'll have a Vike ready.

1. I've had that done.
And while I did find it to be beneficial in the long run, it was very uncomfortable DURING and right after.

Hope this helps you out, Redstone.

2. Thank you for the good words. And may I repeat that I'm SO happy that
your daughter's tests came back clean.

Every parent's nightmare, right there.

4. You're a brave man
My therapist really put the hurt on me ... but it did help. I credit her for much of my recovery from a serious spinal injury. Still, when it comes to back rubs I'd rather remember little lady in Tokyo with the talented toes ...

Best of luck with all this ...

5. Is it like Rolfing?
That hurts, even if you don't have any injuries...

Good luck! :hi:

7. Yes, kind of like that. Trigger-point therapy involves sticking an elbow right where
it REALLY HURTS to have an elbow stuck.

But it does feel better a few days afterward, so it's worth it.

6. My dear Redstone......
I will hold you in my thoughts tomorrow morning......

Even though we have that 3 hour time difference, well, I'll still think of you.......

Once I'm awake!

Good luck with it.......I sure hope it will help you in the long run, if not in the short term......

Chronic pain sucks......

8. Thanks, Pegster. I'm sure she'll be working on breaking up the adhesions, of which
I have several. But all for the good in the end, yes?

9. a vike reccomendation...
next time, instead of vicodin, ask the dr. to prescribe vicoprofen.

vicodin is basically hydrocodone and tyenol- vicoprofen is hydrocodone and ibuprofen(advil)...and if you're like me, advil- an anti-inflammatory med, is more effective on muscle aches than tylenol. acetomeniphen(tylenol) has never done a thing for me, headache-wise or muscleache-wise.

12. thanks for the recommendation, but ibuprofen gives me the bleeds; I've become
sensitized to all NSAIDS, having been a juvenile-arthritis guy.

But I agree that acetaminophen is essentially worthless.

18. sorry to hear that...
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 01:18 AM by QuestionAll
i'm not a juvenile-arthritis guy, but i am a mid-life arthritis guy...my condition, ankylosing spondylitis, went un/misdiagnosed for almost 20 years, having beeen incorrectly diagnosed as reiter's syndrome after a bad case of iritis at age 19.

at one point during my early 20's, i was on 2400 mgs of ibuprofen daily- until i started getting all the bad side effects(with the exception of the bleeding) tinnitis, double vision, insomnia, etc...for the next decade or so, i self-medicated with pot and alcohol, and maybe some occasional vikes from the dr. when the pain got too bad.

eventually, after i was rear-ended at a traffic light by an uninsured and illegal alien, i went to a chiropractor for lingering pain from that, she took some x-rays and correctly diagnosed my condition...i was un-insured and un-employed at the time, so i had to get insurance before going to a medical dr. to get a "proper" diagnosis. i went thru a dozen or so different nsaids, to not much avail, and then i was on OxyRush for awhile- until my insurance found a way to drop me(it's expensive stuff)- after which my dr. put me on methadone for pain- i've been taking it for 8 or 9 years now- 60 mgs/day that i cannot function without(due to pain, not addiction).

i've recently developed migraines, as the condition advances up the spine, and i take vicoprofen for those...i've also found that one or two ibuprofen right before bed helps me wake up in much less pain...but at least i haven't ever developed any bleeding from it- that must suck.

10. I Used To Get Trigger Point Therapy
on my lower back

Oh my gawd, this woman would put her frickin' elbow in my butt cheek and put all of her weight on a trigger point and it would hurt like hell. She put it a lot of other places as well and weight down. Not fun.

Hope it helps ya man!

14. It Helped
It was an experience and I'm not sure she was the most competent as she didn't do any deep tissue release, just a lot of elbows, and knees

I bet your neighbor is better at it than she was

17. I'm far from an expert on therapeutic massage...
but, I've never liked massage that causes me pain. I always feel like it's more beneficial to teach those muscles (and me) to relax.

I hope this works out for you though, Redstone.
