Alan Ladd just blew away Jack Palance....
and a couple of other bad guys.

Then he rode off into the Grand Tetons as Brandon De Wilde called after him to come back.

Great flick.

2. So did Shane die in the end?
In the movie The Negotiator, Samuel L. Jackson made some statement about how Shane died at the end of the movie. You can see him riding off slumping in his saddle after having been wounded. After all, Shane is all about self sacrifice. Or is he dying metaphorically, as the era of the gunslinger has come to an end (notice, too, how Shane rides off through the graveyard).

3. Good question.
I have not seen the movie in a very long time, and tonight, I only caught the last 15 minutes or so, beginning with the gunfight in the saloon.

I did not notice him slumping in the saddle, just that his left arm was hanging from his side. But I still wondered if he might have died. I was so entranced with the beautiful mountains, I probably missed a lot of other things as he rode off.

4. Shane - Hud would make a cool double feature

That's -not- how I expected Brandon De Wilde to look once grown up.

5. Brandon De Wilde ....
I thought his facial features as a boy, in Shane, and in his 20's, in "In Harm's Way" as an example, were almost identical.
