Wow. I walked out to my car this morning,
got in, and reached in my pocket for a cigarette.
I haven't smoked in MANY months. It sure can pop up out of nowhere, when you think you've left that behavior behind.

1. I haven't smoked in over 8-/12 years, but I occasionally find myself
holding a pen or a straw as one would hold a cigarette.

2. Did you develop oral fixations after you quit?
I've noted that I chew on things terribly, and touch my lips alot. Perhaps that's a result of sucking my thumb until I was nine, though. :P

4. I didn't think so, but as I read your post I realized my left hand was touching my mouth.
I always have a coffee or bottle of water nearby, though, so maybe that does it.

When I quit, I used Tootsie Pops to help get over the psychological cravings.

7. It's been five years for me....
I always have something to pop into my mouth. Most recently, I'm on a Lifesavers kick. I call them my "cigarettes". I have one as soon as I get up in the morning.

3. When I was pregnant with BabyG every morning I would wake up,
roll over and reach for my cigarettes... and then flip out and then remember like a swift kick in the ribs...and that's not even a metaphor. :D

5. Have you ever had a dream in which you were smoking -
and you woke up feeling guilty?

6. I had them All the time when I was preggers...that and drinking.
I dream by guilt I think. When he was born I would wake up and freak out (after falling asleep in the rocking chair) thinking I had dropped him or that he had rolled off my lap... Craziness. But the smoking dreams are the worst.

13. I've had those
I'd dream that I had smoked a cigarrette, and feel really let down about myself when I woke up.

8. That happened to me recently too
I walked out of a restaurant and reached in my pocket for a cigarette.

It's coming up on 9 years since I've smoked.

9. I find it a bit frightening.
I want to believe that I'm done with it, and then I do something like that...

10. It has been almost 17 years since I quit
I still have those kinds of things happen to me occasionally.

My smoking dreams come when I am very stressed.

Some days, I still want a cigarette. I can almost feel it. (Today is one of those days - lot of stress today - I see the cardiologist).

15. When you dream about smoking
are you disappointed that you back-slid and had a cigarette? Even though it's a dream? That's how the dreams affect me.

I'm still trying to quit. It's only been 5 years since my last cigarette.

20. I get pissed, too, and scared.
I feel like I *really* did something wrong, and/or I worry that I really will!

11. I still get cravings, and I quit almost 6 years ago.
The strength is in the resisting. Good for you for not giving in!

18. The "I'm almost thirty" thing has been helpful.
I wanted to leave my smoking behind, with my twenties.
I think it would be a very good thing.
I quit while I was still 28.

Kudos to you for six years! It's damn hard!

22. For a long time, I couldn't bear to refer to myself as a "non-smoker".
I thought of myself as "a smoker who is not smoking."
Weird, but I couldn't handle the degree of permanance I perceived with labeling myself a "non-smoker".

21. Well, at the very least,
you know you CAN quit!
It's such a hard thing to do.
