Stolen Fiberglass Pig Returned To Owner
<snip>

LEXINGTON, N.C. -- This little piggy is back home. A fiberglass pig stolen from a Lexington public art display in August has been found in a field outside town.

The prodigal pig -- named "Root for the Troops" -- was discovered Saturday by Ron Ikner and his 11-year-old son, Taylor, near the Linwood community. Authorities said an investigation was being conducted but no one had been arrested.

However, evidence at the scene suggests the pig had not been in the field for long.

"There's not a lot of mud on the pig from the rains we had," police Lt. Ron Hargrave said. "There's no debris from the rain. The pig just looks very healthy to be in an open field for the time it's been missing."

Root for the Troops had a few scratches on his right hindquarters but otherwise was in excellent condition.

3. I wonder what would cause
scratches of that type to rear end of a fiberglass pig? Perhaps it is a clue.

5. No we can't!
It could happen AGAIN. The pig-snatcher is still out there running around loose, preying on hapless piggies! Where is justice?!

6. Part of a public art installation
The pig was one of 25 fiberglass sculptures that dotted city streets as part of a summertime "Pigs in the City" public art display by Uptown Lexington Inc

Several cities have had artist-decorated animal displays. The works get auctioned off for charity. I think Chicago was first with cows. Raleigh has artist-decorated wolves (one of which was also stolen and returned last year).

It's funny Lexington has the pigges, b/c that's the BBQ capital of Eastern NC. :9
