Anyone else had enough of the "I hate" threads?
I have some LOVE for the DUers who post about what they LOVE.

Hating just stirs up the negative juices, the anger, and other storm clouds in the soul. It feeds upon itself and grows like cancer.

People start slamming on others in the hate threads too. Someone's feelings get hurt, then flame wars result. In the Lounge?? This ought to be the one refuge from hate on DU.

Now, this isn't a plea to stop posting those kinds of threads. By all means, whatever floats your boat. I can use that little grey 'x' just like the next person if I want to hide the hate.

Just wanting to know if others tire of them too.

1. Well I rarely use the word HATE
I use every dirty word in the book, but that word is the dirtiest of all.

I must admit though.... between the political here in California, the news I read, and the personal stuff you know about..it's been tough to stick to that policy but I still think it is the best one.

Anger is fine and useful.

Disgust is even OK.

I can turn both of those to something worthwhile if properly channeled.

But hatred only kills ME off.

Hope I made sense because all I did was type what was there and now I am going to click without even reading it.

3. made sense to me!
I myself engage in mockery, disdain, and smug sarcasm. But despite my bluster, I have made it a point to tell people I hate no one (such as the candidates I rail against to pick an immediate example).

So many suitable ways to express disgust and outrage, and we live in outrageous times, so by all means we NEED the venting. We need the catharsis of so many pent-up negative feelings, somehow. Hate need not be the way, which shows a lack of creativity and will if we succumb to it.

But yes, it is not easy to stick by as you said, but ultimately worth it if it preserves our well-being and spiritual peace.

2. I hate people that bitch about threads.
Damn You!

Seriously, the negative attacks have gotten horrible. We have to figure out a way to have a candidate that can survive the primary process and still be capable of winning.

5. this isn't really about any specific subject
The candidate threads are a fine example, but I was talking about the mundane too. "I hate people who park their cars!" or "I hate morons who have eyeballs!" It just gets to be self-perpetuating.

I have been on DU a long time, and rarely make it a practice to comment on the nature of other threads (as a thread itself), so I hope that lends some credence to my opinions.

If not, it was worth the shot.

8. I agree
I'm tired of the whining, complaining, and conspiracy theories too. Nobody is going to vote for our guys unless they stop....take a deep breath....and talk about their vision for America. Just espousing their hatred for Bush isn't going to recruit anybody into our camp.

I'll end up voting for the Democratic candidate who doesn't try to blame Bush for Mad Cow Disease or the earthquakes in Iran.

I fear we're driving our party off a cliff. I hope somebody will grab the wheel and save it.

11. What??? No Lotrimin?
Gets rid of fungus headaches!

I am a Bayer man myself. I cannot do Ibuprofen, it bloats my stomach and causes me to cramp. Aspirin has never upset my stomach like it does to some people. I am really gross... I chew on it and actually enjoy the bitterness! It gets in the bloodstream faster and I know it's working that bitter painkilling magic!

If you think I am being weird about aspirin, you should read my NyQuil threads. :D

19. Advil gets rid of cramps
for me anyway.

(Not that you needed to know that.)

Watch out for chewing on the aspirin. The acid could damage your tooth enamel. (Populistmom = everyone's mommy. Jesus!)

But seriously, yesterday was a good day for me in GD 2004. I started a thread asking for only comments of support for candidates, and it worked well.

I started a thread with my 500th post, which probably was some pretty lame prose, and it dropped like a brick -- which usually happens when you're competing with a number of other good threads (Will's romance, Zuni's worst story beginnings, etc). But I also took it to mean that people were being graceful and sparing me ;-)

I also try not to indulge in the "bait" responses -- where someone is just throwing out a little emotional string tugging, and it looks like it will just lead to useless bickering.

Now, I will go get the links to those 2 threads I started and be back to insert them here.

The "Say one thing to support your candidate" thread:
