R.I.P. Charles Gocher (Sun City Girls)
02/20/07

With deep regret, we must announce that Charles Gocher passed away yesterday in Seattle due to a long battle with cancer at the age of 54. He is survived by the two of us who adopted him as a brother 25 years ago and his many friends around the world. He will be missed more than most could ever know. Our thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement during the past three, very difficult years. Many of you were not aware that Charles was ill and that’s because he wanted it that way. Details of a memorial in his honor will be announced soon.

---Alan and Richard Bishop

I can count the number of people in this world who truly inspire me to keep on living on one hand.Gocher was one of those people.A true free-spirit musically, lyrically, and personally. At one of the lowest points in my life I saw the Sun City Girls play live and the show,Gocher in particular, filled me with so much happiness that I was on the planet and alive and that place and time. This is like losing a best friend.

Fuck :(

3. That is sad.
SSGs crashed at my house once when they were on tour, and it was on his 40th birthday. He seemed like a really cool guy, it's shitty that he had to be so sick.

4. Oh shit....

I loved them. "Torch of the Mystics" is one of the great rock albums of the 1980s, and no one seems to have heard of it.

RIP Charlie...in heaven, acid is free and purer than a majorette's pudenda.

6. Been listening to them all day
"Torch.." is awesome indeed.SCG were one of the most original and honest bands I've ever had the good fortune to listen to,and seeing them on Easter Sunday in '04 will always be one of my best memories.

7. I'm rockin' "Midnight Cowboys From Ipanema" and drinking a toast.
I haven't any more exotic (and appropriate) refreshments, I'm afraid.

:toast:
