1. balls of potato wrapped around balls of meat
very tasty.

(a new version is french fries w/ gravy AND cheese sauce--also very tasty but considerably less healthy)

12. My French-Canadian grandfather....
my Pepere, for those who recognize the term, LOVED poutine. It was one of two things he requested during the last week of his life - the other was chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. 15 years later, I still miss him every day.

13. Not cheese sauce; cheese curds, or sometimes cheese.

4. Could it be poteen?
Are you sure of the spelling? I don't know what poutine is but poteen is moonshine. It is Irish Gaelic for little pot, where the stuff is brewed.

6. No, it's spelled correctly. It's an artety-clogging Canadian dish. Delicious, but not health food.
It should be tried once by everyone, but eaten no more than once a month if you want to make it to 40.

This Hour has 30 minutes interviewed candidate George Bush about him.

9. My mom loved it
My folks went to Canada a couple of times. My dad declared poutine an obscenity. My mom wished she could get it here.

(like most foods) depending on where you get it.

fluent in neither official language. A crafty bastard, though at least we can thank him for not being in Iraq.
