I think I'd be quite pleased to be greeted by my grandmother, Nell Carter, and Audrey Hepburn.

Yeah, that'd rock.

and what one believes to be true don't have to coincide. The question to which he's responding is "If there is an afterlife...."

I don't believe in an afterlife, but I'd still like a hug from Nell Carter and a guided tour by Audrey Hepburn.

9. I'd say my mother, but I never feel that she is truly "gone"
I hear her a lot (no not voices just thoughts that I know came from her). When I was trying to plan a trip to Italy recently, I was trying to cut corners and skip an optional tour. Then she told me "Of course, you're going on that tour!" and that settled that. I laughed because it was straight from her (she loved travel and wanted me to do more myself).

she was an awesome lady with so many stories. She was born in 1900 and raised 11 kids. Unfortunately I never really listen or saw the importance of what she had to say. She died when I was 16. I would give anything to be able to hear just one of her stories now.

32. I was very lucky.
Our family was very close to the original hometown in Wisconsin. My uncle Bum did some research back in the 1970s, and drew some family trees on butcher paper that I used as roadmaps, locating people in the census records in ND, PA, IL, MD, etc.

My great grandfather had 9 brothers and sisters who spread to the four winds. And I managed to find them all. Thanks to my uncle Bum and an old article from the Beloit, Wisconsin newspaper that gave clues on what happened to all of them.

I have about 600 pages so far, but have hardly scratched the surface. I've gotten back as far as my GGGgrandparents in PA. I travel the country meeting cousins, scanning their photographs, and collecting family stories, letters, etc.

It's become my life's work. I'm very proud of it.

58. My best cat, who was my guardian, my nephew, mom, and a cousin
I never met but felt watch over me. He died three days after suffering burns from an exploding kerosene tank he ran past to warn a sleeping family their barn was on fire. Died just a couple months before I was born. Always felt he watched over me, then over my daughter when she was tiny.

That theory was reinforced when Mom told me I was gravely ill a few months after birth and the doctors were at a loss. She kept having a dream about my cousin holding me and telling her he would take care of me. She thought it meant I would die and he would meet me. I took it to mean he would make sure I lived the life he didn't get to enjoy.

Leroy White died, at age 13, from injuries suffered from a fire and explosion. He jumped from the back of his dad's truck before my uncle could get it parked as they saw the fire in a neighbor's barn. He ran past the blaze to the house to wake the family so all could help put out the fire. He had unfortunate timing.

They said he loved kids and taught Sunday School. He and my mom were very close. They said he had been looking forward to my birth.

I hope to meet his spirit some day. Have felt his presence most of my life.

But I want to be reunited with my sweet Smudge Cat's soul too. And my nephew and mom.
