ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Wednesday night, contract workers at Disney's Animal Kingdom got into a bizarre fight. One man is accused of dousing another man with gasoline, threatening him with a lighter, and chasing him with a shovel. Stephen Kim's wife said the incident was a misunderstanding that was blown out of proportion.
Deputies said Kim, 33, doused a co-worker with gasoline and then tried to light him on fire. The two men involved were hired as contract workers and were cleaning a pond at the black rhino exhibit in the Animal Kingdom.
Deputies said they had been fighting all night and things got ugly when Kim pulled out the gasoline.
"The victim stated he couldn't even really remember what started the whole argument. It had kind of been an ongoing argument the entire night. He thought the argument was over, but when he turned his back, the suspect came up behind him and doused him with gasoline and then produced a lighter and threatened to light him on fire," said Bruce McMullen of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The victim was 22-year-old Brian Hoffman. After the gasoline incident, deputies said, Kim then attacked Hoffman with a shovel.
Kim is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday morning at 9:00am. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
