Illinois teens busted for having sex in a public library...
The library is not usually considered a venue for sex, but two Woodstock residents were caught in the act at the Woodstock Public Library this week, a police official said.

Raul A. Tapia, 19, and a juvenile female were caught having consensual sex among the book stacks at 414 W. Judd St. around 5 p.m. Monday, said Woodstock Police Sgt. Richard Johns.

(snip)

Antonio Calderon, a 16-year-old Woodstock High School student who was reading a magazine at the library Wednesday, said he was surprised to learn about what had allegedly happened there earlier in the week.

“Wow,” he said, looking stunned. “I’ve never heard of something like that before.”

it started while I was reading that.

2. That's not surprising
I just read a blog post yesterday on an LJ community for librarians talking about a similar incident.

45. I have no doubt
I have some interesting stories working in academia, but I have nothing, NOTHING on public librarians. Hell, I've got garnered more weird-ass and sick stuff in 5 months in public libraries than 3 years in academic. And that's a small circulation, small-town library.

15. this is one fucked up sentence
"Antonio Calderon, a 16-year-old Woodstock High School student who was reading a magazine at the library Wednesday, said he was surprised to learn about what had allegedly happened there earlier in the week."

What reporter walks up to a 16 year old to get a reaction on something like this...the world just gets stranger and stranger.

16. I've had sex in public places as a teenager
it is that strange? mine was confined to cars, and athletic fields or graveyards at night. And a golf course. Never the library.

It certainly happens in public schools, particularly the more troubled ones.

Librarians are a LOT hotter than their public image might indicate.

Hmmm..., that's in rural Illinois, right? Are you sure this didn't happen in the horrible, filthy, nasty, disgustingly foul City of Chicago? But, that can't be right, can it? :wow:

44. I've never taken the architectural tour....
yes, I know, like a New Yorker who has never been to the Statue of Liberty (which I have, twice).

But when I worked downtown, my summer commute to and from the Metra station from North Michigan Avenue was via the Wendella, a tour boat that does commuter runs. It was a great way to get that mile and a bit to make my train on time and looking at the architecture from the river was a wonderful experience.

Although I don't miss working downtown, I miss that summer commute. On the non-rainy days, that is.

:)
