Help! My computer is driving me nuts with "Error signatures."
Here's what it says on many of them:

AppName: iexplore.exe
ModVer 2.0.50727.42

AppVer: 7.0.6000.16414
Offset: 00004c44

ModName: mscoree.dll (What the F*&^% is mscoree.dll?)

This crashes my computer about five times a day. It's been going on for a couple of months, but getting worse now.

I've been told this might be an add-on, and not necessarily Microsoft Windows or IE 7.0. Husband even wiped off 7.0 and then reinstalled it. He's a software engineer and is getting to the end of his tether. He says he might try a REPAIR, but doesn't know if that will help.

We have done the usual -- Deleted Internet Files, Cookies, Forms fill-in.

Husband has run AdAware, Spybot, Norton Anti-Virus, to no avail.

Even going to SEARCH can cause this failure, as well as going to HELP AND SUPPORT.

Any ideas, anybody? I'll try to post this in Computer Help forum, but I'm starting here.

In peace,

Radio Lady in Oregon

1. Time to get a Macintosh
The new iMacs are really nice. And remember, all new Macs can run either the Mac OS, or Windows (in case you like the crashing).

2. This isn't really helpful...

3. But if she thinks her computer is at the end of its life then purchasing advice
is what she may want.

6. Spyware
I had some Russian Porn trojan do this on my old laptop when it had ME on it. Not much you can do except back up data and reinstall from scratch.

7. I second this opinion. Spyware is using internet explorer to communicate.
And its doing it badly, and bombing out. Re-install the OS from scratch.

8. mscoree.dll is part of Microsoft's .NET runtime, apparently.
You might try uninstalling the .NET framework and reinstalling it (Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 1.1, 1.0).

help with this problem.

The .NET framework would need to be uninstalled and reinstalled again with (IE6 or etc...) the new configurations.

If XP is used, you could also go to system restore, that is a possibility too.

11. I took the advice of a person who said that Windows XP is very buggy,

especially these so-called error signatures.

The suggestion was:

Go to START

Go to CONTROL PANEL

Go to ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS

Go to (LOCAL) SERVICES

Disable/stop ERROR REPORTING SERVICE

Then, unless I get the "blue screen of death," it should fix my problem.

We'll see...

13. Try uninstalling IE7
Go to Add And Remove Programs within the Control Panel, and it will be listed there. The uninstall will revert your IE to version 6. You'll have to reboot after it's done.

Try IE6 and see if the error still comes up. If it does not you can always go to the Microsoft web site and redownload IE7 it if you have gotten used to it.

You may also try doing the live update to make sure all the latest security and program patches are in place.

14. Did you run your Recovery CD?
Do a minimum recovery, not a full recovery!
