I sprung Winston today (update on my sick pooch)
Winston is asleep at my feet. :woohoo:

I had called the vet this morning to check on his progress and they said he appeared to be getting better. He hadn't thrown up or had any other problems since I brought him in. His blood work showed his white blood cells had returned to normal and the other blood component that indicates pancreatic problems was now registering, still high, but not off the charts as it was before. The assistant said his eyes looked clearer and that once the vet had the chance to look at him, they would know more.

So when I called back they told me that he seemed to have slipped a bit, he wasn't as energetic and they couldn't get him to eat. She asked that I come by to see if I could get him to eat.

When I showed up and he heard me, he bounced back. They were amazed at how much energy he suddenly had, how much better he was behaving. I tried to get him to eat but all he wanted to do was be held or loved or petted. When I left the area that he was in he started to whine and fuss and bark (all I was doing was going to my car to get his leash so I could walk, he was acting like he had to go). After I went back to where he was, the vet came in the room with us and saw his change and decided he would be better off at home with me. She had the catheter removed and she gave me bland food and antibiotics (and a lecture about not feeding my dogs table scraps) and I paid the bill and off we went. He has been at my feet at work ever since. :)

He so hates the vets and I can't say as I blame him.

Now I just have to watch his diet and give him the antibiotics till he runs out and he should be fine. He just needs to rest and let his system heal. I'm so glad I was able to spring him and I know that my other dogs will be glad to see him. Of course, he will be pampered, but hey, what else am I suppose to do, he is one of my babies and he has been sick.

Thanks to everyone for all of the encouragement and good vibes and healing thoughts and wishes.

:loveya:

2. Glad he is doing better. My Yorkie girl had that twice. Last episode was in May of '05.
I recently got a Yorkie male and I named him Winston, in honor of your Winston! He is such a cutie! Pamper your baby, he deserves it!

5. Oh, it's terrible, they are such little guys.
I hope he doesn't go through it again.

That's neat you name your new boy after my boy, that's an honor. Thank you and thanks for the good wishes.

The vet and her entire staff went out of their way to tell me that Winston was the best yorkie that they have ever had to treat. They couldn't believe how even tempered and well behaved he was. So I got the no table scraps lecture and complimented on his behavior, oh and a nice bill!

No.more.steak.for.my.dogs. EVAH!

9. It is horrible when they go through this because they are so little. My pomeranian also went
through it twice.

I feed them boneless skinless chicken breasts, grilled, and Nutro Lamb and rice dry and wet. So I am not sure why they got sick.

My yorkie girl is so even tempered and well behaved also. I hear that not all yorkies are that way. :wow:

She is a sweetheart!

11. Well if your yorkie is even tempered
it must mean we have the two bestest of the whole bred.

I'll be boiling more chicken breasts for Winson soon. I don't think he likes what the doctor gave me. :(

20. You really can't blame them for hating the vet, true.
My cat regularly tries to bite the vet, but when I am there with her she is MUCH better behaved. I say to the vet, Well, you can't blame her, I feed her and pet her every day, and she sees YOU once a year and you give her shots and stick a thermometer up her butt. I'd probably try to bite you too!

So very true.
And poor Winston spent weeks at the vets after he was his by a car.

His hips were broken and their surgically repaired one of them. It was very painful for him and traumatic for both of us.

He knows what those places are like and he can't stand 'em.

30. The vet recognized that right away
her assistant wanted me to go home and boil some chicken and rice and bring it back to try to feed him. As soon as the vet saw how he perked up with me there, she decided it was time to remove the catheter and let him go home for care. (That and his blood work was so much better.)

Thanks for sharing my wonderful news with me and for all the good vibes.

33. Believe you me, I will be firm, I have to be.
It was so scarey when he was going through the worst of it and then to have to leave him behind, he was so pitiful. :(

Not to mention, vets don't work for free.

I hadn't budgeted for the very expensive lesson, but it was money well spent. :hi:
