I wrote a check for almost 3 grand today.
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 08:44 PM by GOPisEvil
It's not even going to bounce. :D

The check was a 50% deposit on my new a/c and furnace along with duct sealing, new solar window screens and more insulation in the attic. I get to write another big check on Monday when the a/c and furnace work is done.

Of course I get $1300 of that money back, but still... :hurts:

I will like the lower utility bills though. :D

Sounds like you're doing a good job of improving your energy efficiency, though, so that's a good thing.

6. The city gives out some nice rebates.
Even the Feds give a tax rebate for the unit I'm buying.

All the extra work (ducts, insulation and screens) will end up costing about $200 after the rebates.

9. Blocks out about 70% of the sunlight.
Thereby keeping the house cooler, which means fewer cycles for the a/c.

Long -term waiting for stuff I want NOW in no way jives with my lifestyle. :eyes:

I'm going home now babe --- stayed late to make up being a late LOSER yesterday morning, thereby saving myself an hour of vacation time. Every available moment is CRUCIAL at this point. Love ya! Talk later!

That's a lot of money but it will be worth it. I replaced my A/C with an high-efficiency unit almost ten years ago and it really has paid for itself with the savings over the bills from the ancient POS that was there when I bought the house. Plus, I'm cool in the summer!

Still, it was a happy day when I paid the damn thing off!

16. I'm paying cash, thank goodness.
I've been saving up. I'm going from about 6 or 7 SEER to 15.5 SEER. Plus, just going to a unit that only lights the pilot when the furnace kicks on will save a TON in gas usage.

Next up - the hot water heater!

20. Smart move.
After I replaced my CH&A unit a couple of years ago, my electric bill during July & August was under $100. With the old unit I was paying $200-$250 during those months. The extra insulation really helped too.

In addition to the utility bills being lowered & the tax credit, I save money on my home owner's insurance for having an updated unit. :woohoo:

I work for a major insurance company, too.:dunce:

I had an $80 gas bill last month. Those will be a thing of the past! :bounce:

24. That's funny.
Insurance is your job & you forgot about it.

My gas bill was $65 last month, which was the highest in the past 24 months. We had several ice storms during that time so it was damn cold here. Damn cold to Okies & Texans anyway, I'm sure those up north will disagree.

Normally my winter gas bill is $45-$50, $15 the months I don't run my heater.
