My husband talks to cats.
The scary part is that they answer him.

We're going out to photo the aurora, if the cloud cover isn't too much, so I won't be on much tonight, but I thought you guys might like to know I'm married to a guy who talks to cats.

And they answer.

8. I've especially seen that with sled dogs -
mostly the racing teams in the Quest and Iditarod. I know for a fact those dogs talk back! You can hear them at the start and finish. Amazing folks, sled dogs. I love 'em.

12. Mostly mundane stuffl
Like whether or not they get the rest of his cereal in the morning.

But when they get started on politics, watch out! Then, you have to open the garage door and the losing kitty gets to sit on top of the Jeep.

It'll probably tell you cats can't talk.

I know better. So do you. So what kinda God is that, hmm? :P

6. Almost out the door but!
He swears he tells them it's too cold to go out (15 below right now) and they will NOT believe him until he opens every single door to their protected area.

They cuss, too, little shits!

They also complain if he's 10 minutes late for the evening feed. Even though they have "crunchies" all the time. And they want HIM to feed them. They are bored if I do..........

I've never been to a place (home, shelter, etc.) that had a cat in it that did not immediately gravitate to him.

He is a cat magnet.

:)

11. One has to distinguish. They get pissy otherwise.
If I say "food" they ignore me. Not him, but me, yeah, they ignore me. I say "crunchies" and they swarm.

I don't care what others say, cats swarm.

I love 'em, but the little critters swarm.

16. If they do, and you can do it, you are a "cat person"
If you can't, then give to shelters and such.

If you are able, and decide to rescue a kittie, ask on DU how to - there's probably 80,000 of us DU'ers who will offer advice and support.

I love cats. Big, little, scary, hairy, mean & lean, no tailed and long tailed. All of them.

23. I am too...our oldest cat in particular is very vocal. She talks to both of
us a lot, and to our daughter too.
BabyCat VERY distinctly says her two tricks: "over" and "up" before she performs before being fed.
But mostly, they talk to Daddy, and he talks to them, and they are spoiled babies and they love Daddy more than anybody.

24. I read something really interesting here on DU....
...a few months ago about the fact that cats don't say MEOW sounds to each other, but only to humans and are mimicking our vowel sounds. To other cats they use very different sounds, like chirping or trilling. And cats can understand a dozen human words, IIRC.

I've been MEOWing to a ten week old baby and he really likes it. He gets very quiet and watches me very closely, and then smiles. I wonder what that means.

Mine do that too when I meow at them. I get much better conversations out of them if I chortle and chirp the way they do when they talk to one another.

And of course they understand every single thing I say in English.

29. It means that he wonders how you'd taste for breakfast
Our four felines always look sideways at me at feeding time when I'm slow getting their grub. When you have eight beady little eyes all focused on you at once, it can sure give you the willies.

I always tell my kids that cats dream about how their ancestors used to hunt and kill our ancestors, and not to fall for that 'cute little kitty' routine.

Heartless killing machines if you'd give them a chance.

But mine are all lazy and spoiled rotten.

25. Ya know, I goes fer a walk in the hood a while back, late at night,
and as I is walkin, there iss this chatty voice in the distance.

Eventual-like, I passes this dame, headed the other direction, who is loudly tellin her pooch about her day.

So, not wantin to appear too judgmental a person, I sets aside my desire to roll me eyes and I beams a warm smile and big pleasant howdy! at her -- though frankly I ain't slow down nor stop to shoot the breeze.

The voice recedes in the distance.

I wanders some and heads back towards the homestead. And here, comin round the block, is a chatty voice, tellin her pooch about her day, who gives me a big warm smile and a howdy! as I passes.

We all has our funny little ways.
