1. hate when updates do that
...not just Norton, but a lot of other software seems to "update" itself to break your system. Adobe updates (when they actually work) tend to do that...

Sorry, don't have any advice for you though.

2. The problem is NORTON itself. Ditch it.
Norton makes crap.

Unless they've changed in the last couple years, anyway. After a few experiences, and speaking with IT professionals of good caliber, I won't even think of using anything by Norton.

3. DING DING DING!!
We have a winner.
Had to completely delete it off my laptop to be able to connect to the internet. Really.
Figured that out all by myself, too. Yay for the blonde.

5. The last time I had Norton
it screwed up my wireless network to the point I couldn't access my print server, my scanner, my ftp to the domains I manage. The union bought it for me, thinking they were doing a good thing. Took me 3 weeks to find all the problems and fix them.

10. yes. I hate it.
And their customer service, which I've dealt with twice, is a freaking nightmare from hell.

norton should be illegal. I bet it's run by the freepers.

6. I did last night.
After I started a thread, everything went to shit. I couldn't even go to my homepage to check my email. It was 12:30am when I got it to work.

7. The only problems I've had with Norton is when I try downloading
stuff, I have to disable my firewall temporarily.

8. Yes - I called tech support
they walked me through some changes because I could not access email. They did not charge because it was their fault.

9. A Norton upgrade
corrupted my OS.

I learned my lesson. No more Norton.

12. Better to avoid myspace. Until Rupert Murdoch fixes it, the damn place is a haven for malware.
he owns it, it's his responsibility. ;)

I don't use Norton either - they've been lowly rated; the day John W Thompson ditched IBM's OS/2 group (which he helped ruin) to run Symantec I knew it'd be bad... and it turned out as I'd expected.

Now I use Kaspersky Internet Security.

13. Norton is useless, eats up tons of space
Use Grisoft, AVG anti-spyware. It's free. Works great, no hitches.

14. AVG updates are typically manual and take 10~12 hours to get out...
Trend takes 3~4 and Kaspersky takes 1~2...

Freeware is free, but a dedicated service can be a real lifesaver. Especially given the number of virii "in the wild".

It's a bloated piece of garbage.

I'd highly recommend Nod32.
