Just saw the movie: Zodiac
YES!!

The good reviews at rottentomatoes.com are dead-on. And the bad reviews there are from people conditioned with nice, tidy little typical Hollywood endings. Well, guess what? Not everything ends all hunky-dory. Esp. things that happen in something called "reality".

Recommended!

Edited on Sun Mar-04-07 01:25 AM by Roland99
We ended up moving down to near the front row to get away from that stupid @#$%@#$%#$%

"Oh, he's a *serial killer*?!?!

Oh! That's the guy who was in E.R.!"

What did he just say?"

ARGH! STFU!!!

8. It sounds as though you sit near the same people I do!
Years back, I liked The Usual Suspects enough to see it twice in theaters. The second time there was this loud-mouthed guy, the kind of person who lets you watch the wheels of his little mind turning as he thinks aloud. He was figuring out the plot twist out loud. It was almost enough for us to walk over there and tackle him before he ruined it for anyone seeing the movie for the first time. :grr:

21. My DH and I call them "Agency People"
because we became convinced that some mysterious agency was hired to send a talker, seat kicker or bag rattler to sit next to us.

Recently, the "Agency Person" near us had already seen the film, so she proceeded to explain every scene BEFORE it happened!

4. Absolutely!
I saw it Thursday at a sneak preview. On the way out of the theater, I was astonished at the people complaining about the ending. Dumbass, it's a true story! Reality does not have a team of professional screenwriters. I thought it was a great movie and I have not been able to get it out of my head since Thursday.

5. Just read where it's getting lackluster box office receipts
But, it's opening on about 1000 fewer screens than the empty Wild Hogs and also opening on the same weekend as Black Snake Moan.

6. I'm glad it's getting good reviews.
The Zodiac Killer is fascinating, and I'm a definite fan of Fincher's work. (Fight Club is an all-time favourite of mine, haha.) Can't wait to see it.

I just need someone to go with me. My husband refuses, because he thinks I'll be dribbling over Jake G. the entire time. :P

10. I really want to see it. Can't wait, actually.
Unfortunately, back problems are keeping me from sitting in a theater right now. I'll probably have to wait for DVD, but I'm so glad that this movie is as good as I hoped it would be.

11. I'm very interested in this movie.
How could anyone expect a "hunky dory" ending to this one?

13. Reality? So this is NOT based on the Neal Stephenson book ...
http://www.amazon.com/Zodiac-Neal-Stephenson/dp/0553573861/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1_rdssss0/002-6510060-1895208

I was surprised to hear "Zodiac" was made into a movie. Even Stephenson said only a few dozen water-quality control engineers had read it.

15. It's based on two non-fiction books by Robert Graysmith about the Zodiac Killer.

14. Saw it today. Question. (spoiler)
When Graysmith finally meets Lee - the song Baker Street is playing. Baker Street is the home address of Sherlock Holmes. Coincidence?

22. I saw Zodiac tonight / Here's my review:

First of all, it was a great movie. And here's one reason why: it was beautifully, beautifully filmed. I'm so glad to have seen it on the big screen. It was richly and accurately set for the times--the majority of the film is set in the late 60's to mid 70's and everything was just right, but not overly done with cliched stuff. The lighting was perfect too, if that makes sense. It was visually very pleasing. Some breath-taking shots of San Fransisco--especially an aerial of the Golden Gate bridge in the fog (but the best one I've ever seen), and one of the TransAmerica building being built.

The movie was very taut with suspense. It was over 2 and 1/2 hours but it never felt like it. Even though it based on a true story, which it kept very true to, it still reminded me of a suspenseful Hitchcock film.

Jake Gyllenhall and Robert Downey Jr. were excellent. They are exceptional actors. Downey could very well score a best supporting actor Oscar nod (imho).
