Hey, I think we have a poltergeist
A large oncidium orchid that was peacefully sitting on its plant stand just leaped off and crashed to the floor. If I hadn't been nearby, I wouldn't have believed it. I wonder if you can teach a poltergeist to vacuum.

2. I usually blame this sort of thing on the cats
But none of them was in the room.

3. Cue Twilight Zone music.....
Are there any other humans that live in the house? Either they, or the cats (even without physical presence) could be the "poltergeist".

4. I worked in a building that was supposed to be haunted...
The college where I worked for seven years (1998-2005) has been around since before the American Revolution and has all kinds of cool haunted buildings. It is a part of an historic site where tourists visit regularly. Our building was a converted dorm that was built in 1892. The bottom two floors were converted into office space in the early 1960s, but the attic was not. The attic was really spooky and had all kinds of stuff in there for storage. There would be times I'd be in the building by myself with the doors locked, and something would walk up and down the stairs. It happened to other people who worked in the building too, and there were times there would be knocking on the walls when no one else was around. I always said hello to whatever it might have been, and I never had any problems. :) It never scared me---I thought it was cool! :D However, there were more ominous stories coming out of the tavern, which was one street over, and the main building on campus.

Just say hello to the orchid-trashing poltergeist, and it'll probably be more friendly next time. :P

5. It trashed a candlestick, too
We just got back from the in-laws and found a candlestick dismembered in the dining room. That we WILL blame on cats.

9. Do you have any children in your home?
Poltergeists seem to manifest when they're present, especially pubescent/prepubescent children.
