Handle trunked services?
Do you want the military air band?
Are you in an urban area with a lot of powerful pager transmitters (these can cause intermod interference and a well designed scanner can deal with it)?
Mine is a Uniden something-or-other (I'm not at home right now so I don't have the model handy). For $350 works fine. Unfortunately LAPD moved to digital a couple of years ago so I can't liste in to their dispatches anymore.
Grove Enterprises specialized in scanners, you might check their Web site to see what's out there (www.grove-ent.com I think)

I should've explained it. Computer scanner...to scan pictures, letters etc.

I have one here. Was given to me as payment for some computer repairs. Cheap, good and just works. Even with Mandrake Linux.
You can pay more, you cannot do much better than that.
