In addition to the Thin Man series, I'm a sucker for his character in My Man Godfrey.

41. Our Asta is a Swedish Valhund mix
In other words, a Swedish Cattle Dog. Here she is:

She was only about 5 months old there. She's going on 12 years now. And that's me she's using for a dog bed.

27. the closest thing to him today is Kevin Kline
He has the same kind of grace and physical presence. Dapper when he wants to be, too.

My favorite Powell scene is when he's dancing by himself in the nightclub.

18. I don't know how oblivious people were — the first film was made during the
Depression, at the beginning of the New Deal. I think people were just worried about earning a living and feeding their families. Films like "The Thin Man" and its sequels were popular because they offered people an escape for a couple of hours.

19. Read the novel,
it's very different from Hammets other books and stories. Plus the action takes place around the holidays and the heros drink pretty much non-stop. an inspiration to us all.

33. Myrna Loy was an early role model for me. Yeah...I'm almost that old.
The Thin Man movies were on television in the 50' and 60's. Let's just say I was at a very impressionable age. They were great. Almost as great as the Hepburn movies.

...they couldn't walk across the room without getting another drink. Every occasion, every moment, every second, was a reason to pour another drink. It was a great book.

45. When I was in college, the local TV station had an "old movies"
show in the afternoon. They showed the Thin Man movies in a series over a couple of weeks, and I cut class to watch 'em all. Thus, "Modern French Drama" was the only "C" I got in college.

It was worth it!
