My left shoulder hurts
I think I'm sore from screwing around in the pool last night, but I can't figure why my LEFT shoulder hurts. Ouch.

It's not too bad, but it's making sitting at my chair kind of annoying--standing seems to help.

Sympathy anyone?

1. Envy not sympathy
Now you have an excuse to get hopped up on painkillers

3. how old are you?
And are you at risk for cardiac trouble? Smoker, high blood pressure, etc.?

Left shoulder pain can be a symptom of a heart attack. If you have any shortness of breath, weakness, numbness or other cardiac symptoms, do something about it now.

5. Nah, I'm 37 and I don't smoke, actually I'm a whitewater kayak instructor
and I was teaching people how to roll their kayaks last night! I did most of the support with my right arm (which is why I'm surprised it's my left that hurts) but I think it was the helping filp nervous students back uprright that is causing a minor spasm right now.

I'm pretty familiar with the classic heart attack sypmtoms--and this ain't those--but thanks for the reminder, and if this gets the word out to others, well so much the better! :hi:

7. did you try ibuprofen, then?
800 mg sure took care of the pain of a torn rotator cuff for me.

9. I'm at work and don't have any available (hence the sniveling)
I didn't even think I might be sore this morning--it kind of surprised me. WHen I go home I'll take some.

But on the other hand: WOW! A TORN ROTATOR CUFF AND YOU ONLY NEEDED 800 MG?!?!? Now THAT is gutting it out! When my roommate wrecked his rotator cuffs (both shoulders) he was percoset and it still hurt like hell.

I'll sheepishly stop whining now!

4. Not to be a downer, but that can be a sign of a heart attack.
Just make sure that's not it.

8. Next time, don't do it in a pool...
:yoiks:

Have you eaten spicy foods? it may be a gas bubble, but going to the ER may be the prudent course of action if the main maintains...

11. IS there a rimshot smilie available?
Nice one HT!

And actually I did eat some "spicy" food last night (Friday's Dragonfire Chicken--pretty mild) but this is muscle soreness in whatever the muscle name is that connects ribcage to shoulder--you know, the muscles that "outline" the armpit.

10. Does your neck hurt also?
I had a pinched nerve inmy neck a couple of years ago that sounds exactly like that. It only hurts when you are sitting down with your back unsupported. Hot water in the shower while stretching your neck helps a lot (raise your arm and try to sniff your armpit). Other than ibufrofin, stretching and wearing a neck collar for an hour or so a day there is not much you can do for it except let it run it's course.
