Watched "Jarhead" this weekend - what did you think?
It was unlike any war movie I've ever seen. Jake Gyllenhaal was excellent, as was everyone else. I liked how they kept shifting from the movie representation of war vs. the reality of war.

On the other hand - I really don't get what this movie was trying to say.

What did you think?

1. I liked this movie a great deal
I think it made a good point to show how crappy the supplies they had to use were old and didn't work properly.

2. I liked it but didn't really see any overtly intended messages
So I didn't really read much into.

Gyllenhaal has been good in everything, even in the The Day After Tommorrow, which otherwise sucked ass.Especially the super cool Donnie Darko.

I'm looking forward to seeing him in Zodiac.

4. Not enough use of the word fuck.
Seriously.

Them there in Hollywood is gettin' sneaky, making all these modern War movies which are anti-war.

5. I don't think the movie was trying to say anything...
just to show the mundane day-to-day lives of soldiers, more than anything else. The book did an even better job of showing how, unlike in the movies, most of a soldier's life during wartime is actually tremendously dull.

6. I agree with you, Jake G was excellent in it.
it was pretty heavy, if I recall, as war movies can tend to be.
I saw it a while ago. Other than that I have no other startling insights, sorry.

:hi:

7. I like the scene in which the choppers are overhead.
And the marines hear music from "Apocolypse Now," and complain that it's "Viet Nam music."

11. You women have to realize that we men are more than just sex symbols
We have brains too, you know!

I hate it when women just look at me for my studly exterior

:)

9. I think the movie was more of a straight up memoir, as opposed to
trying to make a specific point.

If it had a message it'd probably be "War! How can anything this dangerous be this boring?"

(Not that movie was dull or bad--just the large amounst of seemingly pointless and endless waiting around the guys had to endure)
