he has a tumor wrapped around the upper part of his spine, and the doctors have to go in and do biopsies today to figure out what their options are.

1. Not necessarily
I am not a doctor, but I would imagine having a tumor wrapped around the spine would be mighty painful.

4. Not necessarily bad
Morphine, as are most forms of opium, is an excellent pain manager.

Good thoughts for your friend.

5. No, not at all...
morphine drips are real common pre- and (even more so) post-surgery. Don't let it bother you!

That's gotta hurt, so it's probably normal to administer. Hope things turn out well.

9. No--I've been on it after surgery for a non-terminal issue.
In fact, you should probably thank the doctor for prescribing it; sounds like your friend would be in a world of hurt without it.

10. I've received morphine several times
For various surgeries and pain management. I would not take that fact as a bad sign in and of itself. I hope everything turns out okay for your friend.

11. mmmmm morphine
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 05:02 PM by Kali
Had it for a kidney stone - good shit.

I know a guy that had some kind of tumor at the base of his skull/upper cervical verts. He actually had it removed in December as an OUTPATIENT! I don't know him that well nor what kind of tumor, but I was pretty amazed at his story, because he was telling it to a group of us the same evening of the day he had it done.

Hope your friend has a similar easy time of it.

in the technology and medicine. and also that the attitude twd morphine has been evolving, but wasn't sure. thanks for sharing your story.

14. this guy has the most beautiful waist length white hair and if they cut any of it off
you couldn't tell! He did have a kind of thick pad-bandage thing on the back of his neck but I would have never thought a surgery to remove something that invasive could be done so ...well, UNinvasivly! He had this thing for a long time (very slow growing?) and had actually been waiting for the technology to reach the point where he felt confident they wouldn't cause paralysis...

No, I don't think that taking morphine is necessarily a bad sign.

I'm sending good thoughts anyway. :)
