One of the best tirades about our government (especially the repukes that used to run the Senate and House) that ever hit the tube:

(Peter Dragon, movie producer, testifying before a Senate committee on violence in the movies)...


Peter Dragon: I never voted to subsidize tobacco while turning my back on food programs for starving kids, I never vetoed a gun control bill. All my guns are fake, senator! I never rushed in defense of Kuwaiti oil fields while ignoring genocide in Africa because big oil companies that line your fat pockets aren’t concerned with black Africa. Those are productions of your company senator, this company right here.

Senator: Now you are perilously close to being cited for contempt, Mr. Dragon.

Peter Dragon: I’m already in contempt! I’m in contempt of all of you old whores and hypocrites! At least I’m giving the American people what they want!

Senator: And just exactly what is it that you think they want.

Peter Dragon: I’ll tell yeew exactly what they want Senator. They want chase scenes and car crashes. They want firm breasts and tight assed Latino men. They want the cowboys to be strong and silent. They want the cops to bend the rules to get the job done. They want the boy to get the girl. They want the alien to be killed, unless he is cute. They want the good guy to win. They want the bad guy to die, hopefully in the biggest explosion the budget will allow. But most importantly senator, they want walk into a theater and for ninety minutes forget the fucking mess that you’ve left of this nation.

1. No one here watched that show, it was on the evil network FOX

Kidding, I loved that show. I guess the man couldn't handle the truth and yanked it after a few episodes.

2. Hollywood insider stuff rarely makes a commercial success

Consider the com/dram Studio 60, which has the look and feel of West Wing (and some of the actors as well)... it's not doing very well mostly because people want to eat the sausage, not know how it's made. Even Action with it's great cast and edgy story line and not one lovable character (except maybe Buddy Hackett in his last role as Uncle Lonnie) could pull an audience, even with the high powered guest stars (playing themselves) like Selma Hayek and Sandra Bullock could get an audience for the show. I personally would laugh so hard that I would lose my breath and start crying, literally ROFLMAO. But then I like irony and sarcasm (the pilot where Jay Mohr dresses down the employee of the month - a salad chef - for complaining that Jay has taken his parking space, and suggesting that said chef piss in every cobb salad because that's all he is ever going to do at the studio... followed by the ending scene where Jay is eating a salad - makes a face - and the same chef comes out and asks if everything is OK... he make the salad himself! That's priceless to me... and no more gross than anything in, say, SouthPark).

Anyway, I just got the DVD set and watched the entire series in one setting... and laughed my ass off all over again.

Highly recommended for people that like sarcasm and poking fun at Hollywood..
