63. My family has sort of a wierd connection to him...

Many of my dad's family worked at International Harvester in Chicago from the 1920s to the 1970s.

IH took over the old Pullman plant facililty in Chicago in the 1960s or 70s. (The Pullman strike that Debs helped foment because while Pullman cut back on his labor force or reduced wages, he kept rents there the same, and families were suffering)

The employees were given their choice of items from the physical plant to buy. For some reason, my uncle Bum bought this huge, unwieldy antique time clock. When I was a little girl, I always wondered what this thing was. When he died, it passed to my aunt, and when she died, the family had no idea what to do with it.

My cousin ended up at a cnference for museum curation, and the lady sitting next to her happened to work for the Historic Pullman Foundation. When they started talking, the woman was very interested in the clock. So now it has a place of honor at their museum.
