I had a grilling accident last Thursday.
I broke my fourth metacarpal in my hand. Something called a spiral fracture. I've got to wear a splint...no more grilling for me for two weeks.

:(

I think we need a bit more detail.
As in how the hell did you manage that?

3. I was carrying the platter out the back door...
when I dropped it and went to fetch it quickly...my ring finger hit the doorknob hard and it stubbed it and then bent it back against my hand.

My doctor laughed, and said that the worst thing he'd ever done in a grilling accident was burn off his eyebrows.

:silly: :)

12. Ow - doncha just HATE when that happens?
I juggled a 2 qt glass casserole full of rice yesterday - got some rice on the floor, but managed to hold on to it - barely - I swear it was all airborn for quite a while...

1. Maddy, how did it happen?
I was thinking you burned yourself when I read the title. But no, a fracture? Some kind of excessive flipping? Were you trying to baste an ox? Slip on some suet?

5. LMAO
No, no suet or oxen.

I hit it on a door knob while walking toward the grill to retrieve the meat. Four beautiful ribeyes were served well-done instead of medium-rare that night...I was lying on the back porch screaming "OUCH OUCH OUCH!" instead of tending to the steaks.

My broken bones so far include:

Broken tibia/fibula plateau - drove a go-cart off a bridge
Broken foot - ran a three-wheeler ATV into a stop sign
Fractured elbow - never insult a batter when she's holding the bat
And now this.

I need a guardian angel. :(

18. Tis true, but they kinda sucked when I finally served them...
I like my steaks a little on the bloody side. :)

6. Thanks...
I'll be ok. The splint makes me claustrophobic, but I'll get used to it.

I've grilled some tough chicken, but that takes the cake!

Hope you feel better soon!

7. I was actually in locomotion from the kitchen to the grill...
The grill was within sight. The ribeyes were perfect, and then I banged my hand on the doorknob and it was all over.

Thanks for the hug. It's more of a nuissance than anything. They only gave me motrin for the pain, though, dammit. :(

11. No, it just proves what a damn doofus I am.
I waited until yesterday to go to the doc after work. Now I've got to wear this dumb contraption on my hand. And I can't even milk it for a day off work. :(

:hi:

13. Them grills are dangerous contraptions.
You'll put your eye out.
;-)
Sorry about the ribeyes (and your finger).
That's my favorite cut.
Do you use the 'poke' method to test for doneness?

14. Hey, Mr. T!
Naw, no poke test. LOL.

How ya doing? I'm going to have an oyster po boy at Acme in the French Quarter this weekend. Are you jealous?

:hi:

20. Yes I am jealous. And you made my mouth water.
How far are you from NOLA?

I do ribeyes about 3 minutes on a side and then start pokin' 'em with my forefinger (dipped in Scotch & soda for hygienic reasons). I can usually nail rare, med. rare, etc.
Takes a little practice.

21. I do mine about four to five minutes on each side....
I know this is the grilling sin, but I cut one ribeye to see if it's right, and kinda gauge the others by that.

If anyone wants seconds, they have to have the test steak. :D

17. Hey, now!
I'd give up a season of steaks to have snow just ONCE in the deep south. I want to build a snowcat, and I'll probably never get the chance.

I'm gonna do it, once the temperature rises a bit.

Seriously, I'm sorry about your hand!

I just have to peck with my index finger on my right hand. I'll live. :-)

You'll have to post a photo of your snowcat after you make it!
