Extra credit..I can't find the damn answer. Greek History, any buffs out there?

The Spartan General Pausanius sent a message to the Persian king saying he was willing to betray Sparta. He was sure the messenger he chose was very loyal and would deliver the message. However, because of something he read in the message, the messenger took it to Sparta instead of to the Persian King.

What did the messenger see in the message that made him bring it to Sparta rather than the Persian King?

Can anyone help with this. I am not to good with Greek History.

My only guess would be that the messenger saw that he was to be killed immediately after delivering the message to the Persian King.

But I really don't know.
