For years, people have said it was my kind of town. That I had to visit. And I did. And I loved it.

16. Come visit again. Just wait a couple months. It's still really cold right now.
Boy those first few really warm days of the year are just magic. Especially if they happen on a weekend. Driving down Lake Shore Drive and seeing everyone come out of hibernation is a sight for sore eyes, that's for sure.

19. yeah, and spring is cold, too. come in the fall.
that is definitely the best time to visit. we are a very green city, so fall has a lot of color. the lake is calm and gorgeous. and the weather is perfect, not too hot, not too cold.

I live for those gorgeous days when the sky is crazy blue, the sunlight is golden, the lake is sparkling and the buildings shimmer.

25. My visit was during the summer.
And I got to see a Cubs game. My seats were one row from where the pitchers warmed-up. I had never been that close to a ballplayer in my life.

Autumn sounds very lovely. I'll keep that suggestion in mind.

22. I had a layover in Chicago about a month ago.
Flying in over the lake and seeing the frozen shoreline was freaky. And it was 2 degrees with 30 mph winds. As much as I would love to live there, I know I wouldn't be able to handle the winters.

it is usually only a dozen or so really, really awful days. they sock me right in the autoimmune abnormalities. i'm lucky i am self employed and can hide form it.
but you definitely need good longjohns and a down coat. and a long handled ice scraper.
living here is not for the faint of heart.

35. Chicago Dogs ROCK.
We have a hot dog stand in Cedar Rapids (Iowa) called the "The Flying Wienie" and the owner is a flying enthusiast with his pilots license. He flies to Chicago a couple times a week and picks up the Vienna Street dogs and sausages and serves them up Chicago style with a side of hand cut fries.

*wipes a tear away*
God Bless that man.

http://www.hotdogchicagostyle.com/makeyourown.php

And for crissake....no ketchup, never, ever. It's just not acceptable. Ever.

You should come visit sometime. We locals actually eat a lot more Italian Beef sandwiches than hot dogs and pizza combined, I reckon. You needa beefer?

BTW, I plan on being in New England next Holiday Season. I'm retracing my ancestral roots which sailed to Salem in 1637 and settled in Watertown, then Marlborough. Then gradually moved west. I lived in Cambridge for a short time and really loved it, so I'm looking forward to returning.
