It's International Women's Day!! Post what you love about WOMEN:
http://www.internationalwomensday.com/about.asp

Today is a global day of celebration. Celebrated on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is the global day connecting all women around the world and inspiring them to achieve their full potential. IWD celebrates the collective power of women past, present and future.

I love how unique, beautiful and diverse all of our bodies are. :D

Here's to WOMEN! :toast:

1. My dear Shine!
What a terrific idea for a thread!

And what do I love about women?

They are all my sisters!

We support each other in joyful times, in sad ones, in scary ones, in all our endeavors!

We are the life-bearers, the nurturing sex, the early teachers of our children...

When we band together, we are unstoppable!

11. I think
that today is more about respecting women than loving them. Misogynists have always claimed that they loved women, so I think we need to get farther than that. Today is about men respecting women, and women respecting women.

Today is for accepting that there is a lot of work left to do to fight sexism, and for committing ourselves to stay in that fight.

23. women are tough. they survive a lot of adversity and still learn to make their own paths.
whether or not i like individual women i respect that they are generally a tough lot. despite popular beliefs that we are fragile, women, even the ones that live in terribly oppressive regimes are tough.

35. hell yes, women are tough
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 04:32 PM by unpossibles
and get little credit for it.

I think if most men had to put up with half of the things the average woman has to deal with every day, they would be huddled in the corner crying. I've always been inspired by my mother - she passed away right after I turned 13, but she taught me to be myself, to take care of myself, to be strong, and to not fret too much about what everyone thinks, and I thank her every day for it.

Hell, she raised me and my brother, two total hellions, by herself, worked her ass off, remodeled the house I grew up in, and still found time to go dancing and to enjoy life: I have nothing but the utmost respect for her and other women, and am very glad that she raised me the way she did. We did not have much money, but we learned to get by.

I assumed it was normal to know how to cook, clean, do laundry, etc. until I went to college and met guys who did not know how to do anything for themselves, and I think that sucks.

Here's to the women of the world.

26. Phenomenal Woman
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

43. I love that women can be whatever they want to be and still be free to be women.
:) The women who came before us made many sacrifices and battled stereotypes, discrimination, and misogyny; this battle is yet to be won, but we have made tremendous strides in overcoming the bullshit. I am who I am because of those who fought so hard for us.

BTW, my mother is a fiercely independent, intelligent woman who taught me to look after myself and to be independent as well. :) She succeeded, and then some. I love you, Mom!
