I'm reading Nickel and Dimed, which should say it all right there. Thank you, Mama and Papa, for giving me a home where I could grow up to sit on my behind all day in an office. Thank you for making me work as a maid and laundress in the hotel with Pop: the lesson finally sunk in. And here I thought you were tired of my requests for spending money...

1. I made my freshman class read that book.

Many said that it changed their views of "the American dream." No one disliked it, and most everyone wrote rave reviews of it.

2. Yup, that book had the same effect on me.

I have recently joined a "book club" which, to me, is a little like joining the "ladies' garden club" but I did join because a good friend asked me to and because I was curious. This is a club composed of pretty well-off women. I was asked for a book suggestion and I said "Nickel and Dimed" and they went with it. I don't think they had a clue. The meeting is Sunday afternoon and I am going to be very interested in what these women have to say.
