That would explain why I feel old.

Here's how low my self-esteem was, even as a kid....everyone I knew was IN LOVE with Davey, but I was more interested in Mickey, because I knew Davey would never give me the time of day.

And I really believed they lived near me in eastern Iowa, because they sang about Clarksville and Pleasant Valley, both of which are towns in eastern Iowa.

I was Monkee-crazy!!

8. When they sang "Last Train to Clarksville",
I thought they were singing about Clarksville, Arkansas.

9. Well I was going to marry Davy, and once,
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 09:16 PM by LibDemAlways
at a Buffalo Springfield concert the MC announced that Mickey and Peter were in the crowd. I bolted from my seat and finally found Peter, at the back of the hall standing in front of the dressing room door with his girlfriend. I literally stood at his feet just staring up at him. He ignored me, but his girlfriend kept asking if I had a seat I could return to! Immediately after the show, he ducked into the dressing room. The members of Buffalo Springfield showed up a minute later and couldn't get in because Peter had locked the door - probably to keep me out!

I was all of 14 at the time, the same age my daughter is now. I wish today's groups that appeal to young teens were more like the Monkees. If you haven't been to a rock show lately, you'd be in for a shock. It's nonstop crude language between songs celebrating sex, drugs, and death sung by guys you'd never let into your home. And the kids love it.

4. I loved him before he was a Monkee -
and just a mere Circus Boy . . .

7. funny thing
I recognized him right off when The Monkees came onto the scene. No one believed me, though. (Pre-internet sucked....)

I always thought Davy was cute, but just too short for me. :)

6. Mickey was my favorite....
He wasn't the cutest, but I loved him because he was the funniest. (I'll take a sense of humor over looks every time!)

He hasn't aged very well, though.

10. My first crush was Micky Dolenz (I was born four years after
the Monkees went on the air), but used to watch the re-runs when I was in elementary school. Micky was hot!

13. Nice photo!
I just recognized the incredible resemblance between Mickey and an ex-sweetheart (4 years!) of mine. Wow! I wish I'd realized that before the relationship....:freak:

16. OH man!!! I always preferred the curly Micky over
the first season Micky where they made him straighten his hair, I guess in an effort to make him look more Beatle-esque. He was hot when he was younger but I agree, time has not been kind to his hair.

15. Happy Birthday, Mickey...
The first Monkees album I owned: my sister and I used the pennies we'd saved together to buy. We took them - in the jar, no less - to Montgomery Wards and bought it. I still have that album.
