So for $20 today at the Goodwill

I scored all this stuff that was like new:

1 pair of Seven Jeans
1 Izod skirt
1 Tommy Hilfiger shirt
1 Old Navy shirt
2 prs of The Childrens Place capris pants
1 large baggie of dinosaur toys
1 large baggie of Barbie clothes (included 4 nice ballgowns)
1 diaper bag
1 pr of baby shoes

It was one of my best scores in a long while. What's the best day you had while thrifting?

1. One time I scored a whole bunch of cute clothes at my favorite local thrift shop

for $20 and then proceeded to find a $20 bill in the pocket of one of the skirts I bought. Best. Score. Ever.

2. Woah that is too cool

I picked up a book for .50 and sold it on Ebay for $150.
It was an original copy of Uncle Remus.

8. That's awesome! My score was a godsend at the time because I was

super broke and really didn't have the money to spend but needed clothes for work. Getting them for free was just what I needed. I was chuffed for weeks about that, and every time I wore that skirt I thought of it as my lucky skirt.

3. I used to do well back when it was mandatory because I couldn't afford anything else.

Now I'm happy when I score one good purchase. The most recent was a brand new pair of well made jeans for seven bucks and a shirt for $1.50.

4. I got a hospital grade breastpump (the kind meant for multiple users)

that sells for about $700 new for $5. I gave it to a mom who posted on CL saying she needed a pump.

Oh, and I got my bike for $18.

My sentimental favorite is probably my Star Trek sheet set though, I got those as part of a $5 for a hefty bag sale at the last day of a church's yard sale, along with a ton of clothes for my son and the neighbor kids.

All three of the teens + in this house would rather hit the thrift store than the mall.

11. Wow, your Goodwill is cheap

Ours is pretty pricy--jeans go for $6 and they charge way high for "designer" labels. That and it's picked over so I hardly ever find anything. I've got a couple of consignment stores I do better at.

12. I scored yesterday...

I shop Goodwill for a living (I resell most of what I find on Ebay). Yesterday, I found the item below in the Brentwood store in Los Angeles. It was perfect timing because it was on a rack that they just rolled out on the floor and I happen to be in the perfect spot when they rolled it out. The lady next to me pulled a gorgeous double knit Valentino blazer from the rack right next to the skirt.

This is a pleated silk Chanel logo skirt, spotless and in perfect condition, for $4.99. (The guys in management are slipping. They usually mark up designer items.) It looks like whoever owned it wore it once!




I'll get close to $200 for it on Ebay.

In L.A. it's so competitive. As soon as they roll a new rack on the floor you have about 10-15 people waiting to devour it. Here it's all about luck & timing.

I LOVE Goodwill.

15. Wow, you're lucky! Some goodwill stores are auctioning online.

They get more money that way but it takes away from the fun of looking for something at a bargain and either using it or reselling it like you do.

13. The day that I moved into my apartment ...

My mom , my grandmother and I went to a Tag Sale. There was a house in which the renters did not pay their rent - I don't know what happened to the renters but everything in the entire house was sold by the owner. I mean EVERYTHING !!!!!!! EVERY-THING from wooden framed bed for $75 dollars , brand new probably would have cost $350 dollars. I already had a bed and I only had one bedroom so I did'nt need it. But I did buy the washer machine for $25 dollars. My mom bought a 36 inch television for $25 dollars - I also got a coffee table, a set of dishes , pictures for my wall ... and other stuff. Everything except the dust was sold in this house .

I miss scouring thrift stores with my Mom. To us it was never hardship but fun, even if my family's $$$ was tight at times. I think Mom's attitude mattered a lot. Hubby's family did the same thing but hubby has taken away an attitude of "we shopped there with no choice" and has grown up to be quite a spender.

Last time I went I got a pair of green Jones New York jean-slacks that still had the tag on for $4. I have been wearing them to work lately. They are so comfy.

16. I got a Lenox platter, trimmed with gold, for four bucks.

It has absolutely no flaws and retails for about $80. That was five years ago and I'm still pleased.
