4. A Scanner Darkly.

Not to everyones taste, I know, but I loved what Linklater did with Phil Dick's novel here; he hits just the right balance between paranoia, comedy, and a kind of inchoate profundity that remains tantalizingly out of reach. Plus, Robert Downey Jr. is hilarious.

As someone who had to hide my face during big chunks of Marathon Man, I found Pan's Labyrinth painful. Just a warning.

to underscore the protagonist's desperate need for such an all-consuming fantasy life. That said, yeah, those couple of scenes were pretty startlingly graphic. Not "Hostel" graphic, thank the gods, but graphic. Still, a remarkable film. I found it to be beautiful and incredibly moving.

And I'm with you on "Marathon Man" - I've never been a huge fan of submitting to dentistry, and the crazy Nazi guy didn't help me any with that.

8. I went to the midnight showing of 300 this morning.

If you're into blood and gore and killer combat sequences, this is the movie for you. The plot is basic and the dialogue is just "o.k." but the battle scenes, which go on nearly uninterrupted for the second two-thirds of the film, are first rate. It's a cool quasi-fantasy take on a legendary ancient clash between the 300 Spartans and the massive Persian army.

Or you can go see Music and Lyrics or something.

I'm more the arty type. Blood and gore I leave to the guys in the house. (I did like Kill Bill and Eastern martial arts films, but that's about as far as I go)

9. The Woodsman

Not an easy movie to watch by any stretch of the imagination, but it stuck with me for days, Kevin Bacon gave a really good performance in it. It raises some heavy issues to think on, and was pretty wrenching emotionally, as it made me kind of question my previous beliefs.

But, since it's a day off, you'll probably want to watch something that is more "enjoyable", I recomend get the SNL best of Alec Baldwin, I just about pee my pants every time I watch it - Schweddy Balls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uRt_4y0wKc

39. We enjoyed Wild Hogs and I'm pretty selective on what I like.

It was pretty funny and the four guys in it, John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and Bill Macy had good chemistry. It was fairly fast moving and had a decent story. I would recommend it.
