(assuming you're talking about the one in Italy, not the one in Florida)
I spent a year living and working in Naples and the city is a real dump. The people are lovely and the food is good, but the city itself is a mass of post-war buildings and massive new construction projects. Not a nice place to hang out. Street crime is also quite bad, with moped bag snatchers reaching epidemic proportions.
The good news is that the Amalfi coast is close at hand and Capri is just a short ferry ride away. Of course, Pompeii and Herculaneum are well worth seeing, but Sorento and the costal towns south of there (Talented Mr. Ripley country) are definitely a must-see.
And yes, the drivers are every bit as insane as you've heard. I had a bet with a business colleague that he wouldn't be able to point out a single undamaged car during our cab ride between our hotel and the airport. I won.
