3. It must be awesome to be a dean...
I pull out a flask at a faculty meeting (or in class), and I'm in a world of trouble. But the dean can have wine, catered food, whatever she wants whenever she calls the smallest meeting. The world is just not fair...

4. one of the profs on my MSc committee recalled an exam in the 1970s ...
... where HER prof (who was still teaching at the college where we both got our undergrad degrees) pulled out a six-pack and finished it off before the last students had handed in their papers!

Those were the days, eh?

5. Nice... On the other hand, they had to wear coats and ties in those days
(or equivalent) and we don't, so when you think about it we're really better off, right? Right? (Ehh, who am I kidding...)

6. or even those dusty old academic gowns!
I had a very elderly high school teacher (from the UK) who was the only one on staff (maybe even the only one in the city) who still dressed like that.

Three cans into his "lunch", I guess it's possible that Professor B. no longer realized he was wearing a jacket and tie! As one of the lowly mob of sessional instructors around here, I can get away with (new) black jeans and no-logo T-shirt, though I did recently invest in the ubiquitous academic tweed jacket, just in case. The environmental science side of things is supposedly more scruffy than the biz/management types, anyhow.
