I have recordings of a bunch of them, though. I'm working on a collection of every concert my son attended in utero. :) I've got all but 2, and I know somebody with a recording of one of them.

36. I was fortunate enough to live near Chicago and Madison
when I was a teen in the 80's, so my friends and I were able to go to many really great shows. I've never been able to make it to a Nick Cave show, though. :-(

My favorite show that I ever attended was Tom Waits in 1999. That was amazing. We Minneapolitans are spoiled because whenever he tours (every decade or so) he stops by Minneapolis. :hi:

43. I missed a lot in my late teens
My senior year of high school was 1985, and I was primarily into heavy metal type stuff from around 1980 through the late 80s. I started getting into 'alternative' music my freshman year of college 85-86, but did not get a chance to get to many concerts until after I got out of college - so I missed a lot of those groups. I went to college a little over an hour from Boston, too, so I'm sure many of those bands went through Boston during that era as well...

I had a chance to go see Nirvana on their last tour - I think they were in Springfield, Mass. I was a bit under the weather, so decided to pass. Next thing you know, Kurt Cobain was dead. ;(

(Before they were 'big')They played in a small bar/venue/dump called the Uptown Bar in Mpls and I didn't go. *sigh* I'm sure I was just sitting in some other dump that night. *kicks self* I wished I would have been able to see any Clash incarnation, but I missed them too.

28. No way I'll remember them all, but here goes
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 01:16 PM by NewJeffCT
This is only a fraction of what/who I've seen - the last concert I went to was the David Bowie/Nine Inch Nails show... I've edited this list 4 times now to add more.

Lita Ford
Ratt
Twisted Sister*
(these 1st three were my first ever concert)
Rush
Ozzy Osbourne
Metallica*
Queensryche
Deep Purple
Judas Priest
Dio
Zebra
REM
10,000 Maniacs*
Belly
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Green Day
U2
Hole
Nine Inch Nails
David Bowie
4 Non Blondes
Husker Du
Anthrax
Garbage
Yngwie Malmsteen
Triumph
Steve Vai
Sugarcubes
Ted Nugent (embarrassed by that one)
Megadeth*

* seen more than once.

I've been to quite a few music festivals - Lollapalooza, etc - and there are just too many to remember them all.

31. You Apparently Have A Better Memory For This Sort Of Thing
I've been to hundreds. It was cheap when i was in high school. And, now i'm a cranky old man and don't like big crowds. So, my "concerting" days are over.

But, just to add some that weren't on your list.

Led Zeppelin (Twice)
Cyndi Lauper (Twice)
King Crimson (Twice)
The Fixx (Twice)
The Eagles (Yeah, i know.)
Oingo Boingo
Yes (Twice. You added that, but i had to mention it anyway.)
ELP
Deep Purple (Twice)
Blue Oyster Cult (Several Times. Long Story. Not going into it.)
Rufus/Chaka Khan (See Blue Oyster Cult)
Three Dog Night (Three Times)
Ides of March
Survivor (from backstage, twice)
Cheap Trick (from backstage; we opened for them at Chicagofest in the mid-80's)
Weather Report
Return To Forever
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Miles Davis
David Bowie (four times)
Alice Cooper (twice)
Mott The Hoople (twice)
Foghat (twice. Yeah, twice. Don't ask)
Dire Straits
Eric Clapton with Carlos Santana

That's enough. I'm feelin' old.

34. Funny Stanley Clarke Story
I had a piano coach back the 70's who knew Chick. So, when they were in Chicago once (we saw them at Arie Crown), we went to my old coach's house to meet Chick.

We were looking at pictures of the gear from the show and Stanley's gear was one of the pix. In it was an Alembic 6 string piccolo bass. Chick said that when he got it he was so happy about it and Chick looked at him and said "Stanley, clam down. Most people call that a guitar!" Just struck us really funny. Even the most serious amongst us can cut to the quick.

45. That's hysterical!
My husband gets annoyed with 5 and 6 string basses. He likes his trusty 4 string. The funny thing is that he just bought a guitar and I now I'm going to tell him he could have just gotten a 5 or 6 string bass.

I just can't do concerts anymore. Now I always get the "when is this going to be over" vibe about half-way through the show. There are a couple I would like to see that I missed in my youth, but I wouldn't go out of my way for them.

55. Piece of cake...none
I don't particularly want to be in a large crowd of people where some are drunk and/or high that is listening to a recording while watching lip-syncing(sp.?) take place. Sorry, just isn't my thing.

Being a casual listener of music I tend to avoid the angle of liking a specific group/person. I make a decision on each song individually. Surprisingly I don't even pay attention to the lyrics! The rhythm/melody is what attracts me. Perhaps I'm alone having that kind of angle.

The only group/person that I would attend a concert is Phil Collins. Honorable Mention(s) to Elton John and Billy Joel.

Some of the best I've seen were shows with audiences of 50-500 people. I've never been to a show that I even remotely thought was dubbed either. To each his/her own though.

The early/mid-80s concerts were often shows where I went with a sibling or friends, so not necessarily all stuff I wanted to see really bad. But some shows I really did want to see.
Huey Lewis & the News
Hall & Oates
Earth, Wind & Fire
Kenny Loggins
Wham!
Go West
Genesis
Journey
Yes
The Police
I know I'm forgetting some...

Then came the late-8os and early-90s, when I was really obssessed with music...
Depeche Mode (multiple shows)
Nitzer Ebb
PiL
Morrissey (multiple shows)
New Order (multiple shows)
Erasure (multiple shows)
The Mighty Lemondrops
The Ocean Blue
Love & Rockets
Sugar Cubes
The Church
Sinead O'Connor
The Wonderstuff
The Farm (I think?)
Pet Shop Boys
Ministry
KMFDM
KLF
Jesus & Mary Chain
The Cure
10,000 Maniacs
The Sundays
Revolting Cocks
Meat Beat Manifesto
Human League
Trash Can Sinatras
REM
Berlin
Howard Jones
Stone Roses
Echo & the Bunnymen
Revenge
Electronic
They Might Be Giants (about a million times)
Plus a bunch of local punk and garage bands
I *know* I'm forgetting a bunch here...

Since the mid-90s, I find myself going to smaller shows. I hate the big arenas and festivals. I'd rather see smaller, more intimate shows.

I do see Neil Finn every time he comes to town in whatever permutation he might be playing.
And I still go see They Might Be Giants quite often.
Indigo Girls (multiple shows)
Erin McKeown
Paris Combo
Buena Vista Social Club
Lots of folk/world/singer-songwriter type shows

100. That show saved my life...
*The early/mid-80s concerts were often shows where I went with a sibling or friends, so not necessarily all stuff I wanted to see really bad. But some shows I really did want to see.*

I went to that show when they came through Charlotte NC... i think i was 16
I was dead front/center on the floor, and got sprayed with champagne by Peter Wolfe.

I attended a private fundie parochial school at the time, the rules of which forbid students from attending rock concerts, seeing as they were "the work of the devil" and all. *L*
The day after the show, they somehow found out i'd gone (i think a church elder worked at the coliseum or something...), and they expelled me immediately!

Yay!!! I hated that place...

My parents weren't even mad, either.
They felt that policy undermined their rights as parents.

bunches of half-assed local bands in various cities I lived in (sometimes while playing in the quarter-assed bands that opened for them)

And some I forgot:

Howard Jones
Dizzy Gillespie

Lionel Hampton
Paul Revere and the Raiders

67. Hmm. It has been a while
The Eagles, Slade, the Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Rush, Prism,
Iron Butterfly, Billy Thorpe, Golden Ear Ring, Nectar, Pavlov's Dog,
Journey, Flame, Iggy Pop, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Renaissance,
Black Oak Arkansas, Alyota Haynes and Jeremiah, PDQ Bach, and
the B-52s.
As i wrack my brain for more, let me explain the antiquity of the
entries.
I stopped going to concerts the day a student ticket exceeded $10.00
The last one was either Rush or yes, back in '83.
It's just too much money for a few hours dubious pleasure. I can usually
assemble a CD catalog of all their works for that price.

I can't remember all of them, but here are some with the amount of times I saw them.

Rush - 8
Metallica - 2
Ozzy - 2 solo, 1 with Sabbath
Black Sabbith - the one just mentioned
Dio - 1
Iron Maiden - 2
Bruce Dickinson solo - 1
Queensryche - 2
Van Halen - 1 or 2, not sure
Dokken - 1
Poison - 2
Testament - 1
Tesla - 1
Megadeth - 1
Likkin Park - 1
Billy Joel - 1 or 2
Transsiberian orchestra - 1

I can't remember anymore. Plus, those are just headliners. I won't mention any opening bands because I won't remember but a small fraction of them, especially because I've been to some huge festival shows like Ozzfest that have tons of bands playing.

96. Wow!
Ned's Atomic Dustbin----reminds me soooo much of the early Nineties! My boyfriend (who is now my husband) brought home "Kill Your Television" and we listened to it nonstop.

102. Yep, me too.
That album reminds me of Italy, since I had it on my Walkman while we were driving around.

Did you know they have some new material out on their MySpace page? Just look up their name. It should show up.
