I'm cycling a 100 miles tomorrow, so please send me good vibes!
MrShine and I are riding in the 25th annual Solvang Century with 5,000 other cyclists. I've done this ride before and it's absolutely beautiful. Should be fun, although challenging.

We could use all the good vibes we can get for Safety, Protection and Strength.

We're leaving the kids with good ole Grandma and getting two nights to ourselves, starting tonite.

:woohoo:

Thanks, loungers!! :hi:

5. Well, not this time, unfortunately.
I'm a bit nervous about this one b/c out of all the centuries I've done, I'm the least-prepared, training-wise. I'm up about 10-15 lbs, still carrying the winter blub and I haven't had the time to fully train, due to winter flu, weather, blah, blah, blah....That's my internal conversation about why this one might be harder than usual.

I'm hoping for the best, though....and trying to keep a positive frame of mind.

We're talking about 8 hrs in the saddle tomorrow....whew!! Thanks for your good wishes, babe. :loveya:

8. heh. "mini vacation"
yeah, something like that...:D

actually, it will be good to share this time with MrShine, alone. It's really cool to have this form of exercise that we can do together. He runs, too, and I am sooooo NOT the runner.

:hi: Thanks, darlin', for your good wishes! :pals: Have a good weekend, too!

12. I think it is great that you can do it together!
I loathe all forms of exercise. I am sort of scared to ride a bike :hide:

Maybe that goes back to my NYC childhood. It just wasn't something I did and while I do know how to ride one, I have never felt comfortable on one.

BTW - I am doing really well on the no smoking thing - thanks for checking in on my thread. I appreciate your support.

4. Water Water Water...
Especially early when you think you might need it!

We did the Santa Fe Century last year (my first 100 in 12 years!) and we made it! I was very hot and we didn't hydrate early...I lost a bottle about 55 miles in and PAID for it at about 75!

Good luck and enjoy!

10. Yeah, baby!! As they say, "Hydrate, or die!"
Water is key, plus Cytomax, which is my exercise drink of choice, for electrolites, etc... This ride is fully supported, so there will be plenty of water and food fuel along the way, to keep us going.

Also, I usually bring along and take copious amounts of Advil. Advil is my friend. :D

Congrats on your century last year! :yourock: Are you doing any more this season?

:hi: Thanks for your good wishes, Ryano42! Have a good weekend, too!

20. Doing the off road 50 miler for the SF Century
On my custom steed:

It's funny; The Santa Fe Century is so popular and it really goes nowhere near Santa Fe! Ugliest century I've ever done...windiest too! BLECCH! Why have I done it 4 times?!??!!

Big event for the summer is an Elite goaltending camp in Michigan; five days of hockey torture and fun! Cycling will be instumental in prepping me and it's good for the KNEES!!!

GOOD LUCK! DRINK! :)

22. Cool bike!! Is that your cat under the wheel? !
LOL. funny. :D

I'm a roadie girl, myself. I don't even have a mountain bike. I like 'em nice and light. I have a aluminum framed Cannondale, with the skinny-ass tires and three rings, for all the damn climbing we do here in the Santa Cruz mountains. Believe me, I use 'em, too!

The Michigan camp sounds like fun. I hear ya on the wind thing. I hate riding in the wind, esp a cross wind.

13. I was thinking that same thing.
I did the CA AIDS ride with 3,000 cyclists back in 2000 and that was the most I'd ever cycled with. It was basically an endless river of cyclists that I was flowing in, which was kinda cool.

Yes, we must be hyper-vigilant when cycling with that many people.

In fact, when I did this same century, back in 2000, when I was training for the AIDS Ride, it was my very first century, EVER. I had never ridden with that many people before and it takes some getting used to. Sure enough, some idiot who wasn't paying attention ran into me and we both went down...this was around mile 25 or so. Luckily, it wasn't too bad of a fall. I just popped some Advil and went on...but it still shook me up a bit cuz it was my first real "accident". Live and learn. :D

:hi: Thanks for the good wishes, seemunkee! :pals: You're right, it's early in the season and I'm hoping to Goddess I can pull this off.

17. Thanks, babe.
it's a gorgeous ride. The route actually takes us thru Vandenberg Airforce Base, which is kinda cool. They have to get special permission for that. We come back from the halfway point of Santa Maria, along Foxen Canyon Rd, which is truly beautiful and bucolic.

:hi: :pals:  Hope you have a nice weekend, too!

30. 100 miles down, 100 miles back the next day
though we only did half. We road 100 mi down, camped overnight and then got a ride back the next day. I've done three century rides including that one. One was called th Covered Bridge Century, and we crossed six covered bridges on the route. Very cool.
