Is that Attention Attention Deficit Deficit? Or Attention Attention Disorder Disorder? :+

I have it, and actually we do have our charms despite driving you organized people crazy.

15. ADULT Attention Deficit Disorder.
Far more complicated and obviously more dangerous than ADD.

16. Not more dangerous for me
Just a continuation from childhood of absent mindedness, forgetfulness, lack of interest in the mundane, overall boredom with just about everything.

The upside is the hyper focus mode. One of my quirky nuances is doing pointillistic pen and ink drawings. Takes hours and hours and I can do it without losing interest. On the other hand, folding a load of laundry can drive me bat shit crazy.

29. Get OUT!!!!!
Go to my website. I did pointillistic pen & ink for 10 years and then transferred to leather burning using the same techniqe. I am NUTS!!!

34. OMG!!!!!! Are you frickin kidding me?????
You are nuts!!! I love your work. It's awesome. I'm nuts, too! I often thought about becoming a tattoo artist, because of my pointillistic style. I don't know how to put my work up to show you my insanity, because I don't have a digital camera -- daughter took it to college with her.

Did you use a crow quill or a rapidograph, before you moved on to the wood burning? I started out with a quill and needed the faster (if you can ever say fast when you are stippling) mechanical pens.

Love the Indian themes and I showed your work to my husband who loves native American stuff and he loved it, too.

It is very common for artists to have ADD -- for me the hyper focus is the gift that gets me through all of the distractions that bog the rest of my life down.

35. Same thing. Started with a quill, then mechanical pen.
Yep, rapidograph. I go into a trance when I work. Can't work on wood though. It's not as smooth.

I'd love to see your stuff. Get a friend to take some pics for you.

37. I may be able to email my business card design.
I just sent it to my county committee for an ad book that we just did for a fundraiser. I'll try that.

I'm going to buy a camera very soon, but have had a tax bill that is due at the end of the month (I've been diligently saving to pay it) and I have a hard time spending any money until that bill is paid.

33. 'Sounds like we have the same type...
My difference is that I do detailed botanical drawings with my hyper focus (although I have to hop out of my chair and dance periodically). And I can tolerate folding laundry, but just hate sitting and making phone calls or doing paperwork. Legal secretarial work was hellish for me. Being forced to pay attention to boring tasks....:puke:

I really have sympathy for my ADD son who is in high school. I wish he was willing to find a way to hyper focus on something other than gaming.

:hi:

36. I hop up and dance, too!
I'm not kidding. The one thing I struggle with is the sitting still very long. When I'm painting, I dance all over the place. When I'm drawing, I'm usually sitting, but I have to jump up and fidget every little while.

My daughter and one of my sons have ADD, too. My son is a creative soul. One of his degrees is in writing arts. He writes poetry and short stories and works at a writing center, while getting his Masters in English.

My daughter struggles way more. She is very social and hyper focuses on that. Her grades have always been sub-par because she is always interacting with her friends. She's a good artist, but I don't think she has allowed it to progress because of issues between the two of us.

42. How funny! I thought I was the only one.
I also usually listen to danceable Rock when I'm woodworking and bounce around my workshop. 'Probably kind of a dangerous combination, actually....:+

I'm so happy to hear that your son is doing so well! It sounds like his ADD hasn't held him back at all. My 16 year old is also very creative and won awards for "Written and Illustrated" competitions. But, he has been so lost the last few years. The only thing he wants to do with his free time is video or computer gaming, preferably with a friend. It's such a waste of his talent and time.

My other two kids (14 and 12) show signs of ADD, mostly disorganization. My daughter is also very social, and has a health issue, but manages to do well in school (not as well as she could, though.) My youngest is disorganized, but incredibly responsible, so he does well. He has been hyper focusing on model building lately. But, both of them practically have a nervous breakdown when they clean their rooms. Trying to organize the clutter and mess is overwhelming.

any day of the week that starts with a T and falls on an even numbered day of an odd numbered month.

Unless I'm wearing white briefs from K-Mart, and it's raining.

one more way for pharmaceutical companies to pathologize practically any aspect of human behavior.

it's like people take comfort in their diagnoses, like the WANT to be sick.

41. AADD is a Complex Diagnosis - But it is Real...
As an adult diagnosed with ADD, I can tell you that it is a relief to have a name for what's constantly interfered with my ability to remain focus on my career.

I personally believe that my nervous system was programmed for failure by an abusive/neglect ive childhood.

This said -- I refuse to give in to these influences. I can accomplish anything I choose to, but I must remain compassionate to those with similar formative experiences.

44. Where I come from
Adults who claim to be AADD or AADHD are usually covering up the fact that they are tweakers.

Not saying this is the case here - I just know ALOT of tweakers who claim this is the reason they need crystal meth...
