Your posts in the thread Billyskank started for my friend Jessica's show just seemed unnecessarily rude and mean. You said the station "sucks" - and continued to repeat it even when people tried to patiently explain that not only was the host a friend of some people on DU and a former DUer herself, but she was reading the thread and taking request from it. It left a really bad taste in my mouth about you.

I think it's sweet how much you love your girlfriend, and I think you helping Bi-baby with her wireless was awesome. But way too often I see you blundering into threads and insulting people to spout some negative opinion. :shrug:

And that's why he doesn't like WEMU (for whom I also work). At least that's what I took from our conversation about it. He is a fan of Minnesota Public Radio and its mix of NPR news and information and classical music. So, it's the phrasing that bothers us WEMUites since we are radio professionals and pride ourselves on doing good radio. If you don't like jazz you don't have to and you certainly don't have to listen. But, it's insulting to read that our station sucks when, at least as I read it, you mean it's a format you don't care for. Maybe a better choice of words is needed.

At least the readers of our area newspapers don't agree; they consistently vote WEMU number one in our area. And since 6 public radio stations reach our market (and many many commercial stations) I think we can feel pretty good about that.

I am beginning to see why the radio station sucks, I think it has something to so with the people working there that obviously can not take criticism.

Also, being voted as the best in your area is not what I would call an achievement. I don't consider the people of Ypsilanti to be Public Radio Critics, and I don't expect the people of Ann Arbor to speak bad of Public Radio as pretentious as they are for no other reason than living near the University of Michigan...

Plus, who actually reads newspapers anymore...

A previous conversation we had made me think maybe it was jazz you didn't like, not our station. I honestly didn't realize the depth of your dislike. I won't bring it up or mention it anymore except to say that while our station is located in Ypsilanti, our audience is not. And that nobody ever tells you that your employer and what you do sucks when you are only trying to do a good job.

but I will tell you this. These "pretentious" people that you speak of are all personal, real time friends of mine and I'm dismayed at the way things are going here ... I enjoy Jessica's show, NOT because she's a friend of mine (that came later) but because it's a damned good show.

The folks at WEMU do a great job in program selection. They are top notch in my book. Not a bit pretentious as you seem to believe.

I know someone here that works for a local TV station, I like her, we are friends, but I don't like her employer or what they call news.

I think there are some DUers that have a problem with Differing opinions, or accepting the fact that different people can have different opinions and STILL get along.

I met very few locals when I was in AA that I would call unpretentious, and as far as I could tell, not a single one of them had a reason to be the way they were.

Well, I followed his original instructions, and couldn't connect via the Mac. So, we narrowed it down once we figured out that the PC could connect to the internet through the router, but not the Mac. Then, we sent screenshots of the System Preferences for Network back and forth, and got me connected through DCHP (?) instead of Manual. That worked perfectly! Then I got onto the Linksys admin page, and set the Mac up for Wireless and secured the network, etc.

I'm sure he could explain it in more detail than I can, hehe...
