"A 33-year-old Mobile-area man was struck by a hit-and-run driver about 1:40 a.m. Friday in the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant parking lot at Airport Boulevard and Montlimar Drive, authorities said.

Officer Eric Gallichant, a Mobile police spokesman, said Dustin Cain was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman said Friday morning he was in serious condition.

Gallichant said Cain had gotten into a fight with two men outside Bojangles Bar & Eatery in the 200 block of Azalea Road.

He said Cain got into a vehicle with another person and they stopped at the Olive Garden parking lot in the 3700 block of Airport Boulevard.

According to Gallichant, a sport utility vehicle followed the vehicle Cain was in and tried to ram that vehicle on Airport Boulevard before it got to the Olive Garden.

The spokesman said that when Cain got out of the vehicle in the Olive Garden parking lot, the driver of the SUV accelerated toward Cain, struck him and then fled.

The SUV appeared to be a silver or gray 2005 Jeep Cherokee, Gallichant said.
