1. nah, see all those people are good...
the most overplayed artist would have to be someone terrible yet played a lot...like J. Geils Band.

5. Aw, shit...
I was going to make the same comment and reference someone like
Eddie Money or Boston, but you said J. Geils!
I would love to have a station that played J. Geils.
Not that Freezeframe stuff, but earlier: Whammer Jammer, House Party, Love Stinks.
They were a fave from way back. Saw 'em twice..

2. AC/DC
I think the reason for it is that people are afraid to admit that they suck.

11. I'm making my stand against orthodoxy.
Someone has to be willing to say that AC/DC sucks. I can't live in a world knowing that my children will be forced to believe that a band that has been playing the same song (just changing the names) for the past 25 years rules.

Someone has to make a stand. :patriot:

I've been waging this battle for years. ACDC has absolutely no redeeming qualities at all. Just terrible from the get-go.

But if KISS had been on that list, I would have chosen them; they suck even more than ACDC.

I'd rather listen to Styx than KISS. I'm talking Paradise Theatre/Kilroy Was Here/Cornerstone era Styx, the suckiest of all Styx incarnations.

I can't stand AC/DC and I REALLY can't stand Ronnie James Dio, Scorpions, or any of those other bands with the seriously overwrought lead singers.

ed. Oh, and Queensryche, or however they spell it. That was the other one. Yikes.

68. People are afraid to "admit" something that is untrue.
I can still listen to AC/DC, but I change Led Zepplin off the radio quicker than the Village People. Not that Led Zepplin wasn't great, but they have become horrendously boring to muddle through these days. AC/DC is still fun. Fun is an underrated music quality, technical skill an overrated one.

62. If you mean Steve Perry-era Journey, I agree
but Journey's early stuff when it was a showcase for Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon *rocked*. The first album is killer, the influence of their former boss Carlos Santana is in heavy evidence. Before Steve Perry showed up it was about good rock'n'roll musicianship with jazz and prog overtones. Lots of kickass solos from Schon and Rolie, with his trademark heavy Hammond or course. :)

THAT Journey totally belongs on classic rock radio, and is practically never heard on same.

I can't stand Aerosmith. Every time I hear one of their songs, I think of Wayne's World.

The most crappy, overplayed band ever - and that's before their 90s 'songs', which are the crappiest pile of shitty shit ever.

No insult to shit intended.

They have never been anything other than a Vegas sideshow attraction. How they ever became rock gods is beyond me; they're cartoon versions of rock stars.

But even they don't suck as much as KISS.

That one was bad enough :P
Anyway, my friend...the reverand Michael Mills once had a radio program where he deemed KISS to be 'Knights in Satanic Service,' and talk about their devotion to Satan.
If that's true, then Satan not only has piss poor taste in music, he picked lousy deliverers of his message.

all their own!!! I will do whatever I have to do to avoid hearing them - leave the room/building/city, stop my ears, attack who is playing it, whatever.

I do NOT understand this nostalgia for the 70s. Especially from persons who weren't even born then. Hey, get in a time machine and spend three days there!! You will never want to go back, believe me, it's empty there. That 70s Show is NOT what it was like!! :puke:

A lot of DUers are much more "elitist" than I when it comes to music.

I'm not afraid to admit that I like Journey and Foreigner and REO Speedwagon, etc. Good tunes are good tunes--and the old timers' stuff is much better than what passes for music these days.

Meatloaf has got to be the worst of all. No other rock band makes my back hurt when I hear them. I'm thinking, as a DJ, almost all of the other artists mentioned in this forum could be played at almost any given party and people would get into it, except Meatloaf. I am pretty sure people would walk out on me if I busted out 'paradise by the dashboard light'.

51. In the early 70s this stuff was top-40, it was MAINSTREAM!
This was "AM" and we weren't into it. On the what we would call today alternative FM we had GlamRock, and later PunkRock. That was a lot of good stuff and is listenable today - it hasn't been played to death either.
Just a few notable examples are Roxy Music, Bowie (NOT Young Americans!!!), T-Rex, New York Dolls, Can, Lou Reed, Sparks, The Residents, etc etc.

"Classic Rock" was the 70s equivalent to Linkin Park, Staind, and yes ... Nickleback. Time wil not improve that current shit, nor has it improved Classic Rock.

57. Rolling Stones, *Some* Floyd, *Some* Zep
But most of what's on the poll, I never heard on the radio until we got FM with our cable company, around 1972-73. I guess maybe if you were in a larger market, you might have heard the Dolls, but we sure didn't. Our AM radio played Bowie, though.

I agree with you about today's "alternative" radio - very 18-34 year-old male dominated. Not like the 1980s when you could hear the likes of New Order, Ziggy Marley, the Cure, Echo, & B-52s.

If I hear "Frankenstein" One More Time, I'll freak!

Runner Up: Peter Frampton "Show Me The Way" I'd like to show him the way. :grr:

66. Mellencamp, Seeger, Petty
overrated.

I can listen through most anything, but these three get me to turn the radio off.

69. Classic rock stations have killed classic rock, IMO.
I'm at the point where I never want to hear some of those songs again in my life. I'm totally sick of them.

70. Face it, Classic Rock stations should be banned.
There isn't a song worth hearing that hasn't been overplayed beyond all ability to stomach it. Unless Mark Knofler is on it.

Someone smart enough to have Cheese as an avatar would like Knopfler. :)

71. I love Zep
but I do think they get played too much, at least certain songs. It would be better if the classic rock stations would play something other than "Stairway" and a few others.

78. Lynne, I love Led Zeppelin
I just wish the radio stations would play something besides four or five of their songs. I think they're spectacular, and Jimmy Paige is a guitar god.

80. Yeah, Stairway needs to be retired
and that message was only for the anti-Zep folks here who have nothing better to do than hurt my feelings

(am I pouring it on thick or what?)

82. Springsteen, although I personally wouldn't categorize him as such.

Many radio stations do, though, and he makes me physically ill.
