I just don't get it sometimes. It seems like, at times, everything turns into a controversy. It's like there's something to offend everyone, because sooner or later, someone always ends up pissed.
What the hell happened?
When did we get to the point where we're offended by almost anything, where even relatively innocuous threads will turn into a flamewar?
I guess you could call this a plea for some sanity. I mean, we all have our own things that offend us. But sometimes, we don't know (or understand) when we are being offensive...not everyone does it on purpose. It is perfectly possible to correct someone without flaming them.
That doesn't happen often, though.
I'm a pretty snarky person, and a troublemaker, but it gets kind of wearying when everything turns into a fight. Then it's flamewar after flamewar, and then people complaining about the flamewars, which leads to even more flamewars.
Obviously, we're not all going to be friends, or necessarily like each other. I know a great deal of you despise me. However, what we need to be able to do is COEXIST PEACEFULLY. The Democratic Party is a big tent, and DU is a big family, and if we are to succeed as a family, we need to do our best to accept each other.
On both sides, a little courtesy, perhaps? If someone offends you, try and handle it rationally and calmly rather than flaming right away. If you're posting something that might offend, think twice about it...is it really worth pissing people off?
Of course, we can't be catering to every tiny little thing that people are offended by, but I think within reasonable bounds, we can all try our best to be sensitivity to the diversity of DU and its diversity of beliefs.
I'll probably get flamed for saying this, too. :P

I've been staying away from posting much in GD or GDP recently because when I was over there a lot, I found that my ignore list was growing at an alarming rate.
