8. The movie was based on a comic book (or graphic novel).
That comic book was somewhat based on reality. You have to go see this movie with that expectation.

It's a visually dazzling action movie. If you're expecting a history lesson, then this isn't the movie for you.

I had fun watching it. :)

11. All the women cheered when the Queen of Sparta stabbed the traitor
I thought that alone was worth the price of admission.

12. Yep!
We saw it yesterday.

Mostly dumb dialog, but a thoroughly enjoyable film. Beautiful to look at. We enjoyed it quite a bit.

13. It was a new kind of awful
No story, no human characters, just an XBox paean to Spartan badassitude. Spartans are badass. Spartan women are badass. Spartan kids are badass. If the badass spectacle of badass isn't enough for you, there's a helpful narrator who'll remind you every so often that Spartans don't feel fear, only heightened awareness. Watch the Spartan badasses, sensibly armored in shaved pecs and crotch socks, chop up waves of bling-encrusted, fully-accessorized (in the sartorial sense, of course) enemies. In slower-than-slow-mo. Hear them crack cheery insults among themselves in the midst of slaughter. See them between attacks, winded but exultant at the prospect of Honorable Death as new assessments make their situation more dire. Hear them bellow Duty, Honor, Sacrifice, and SPAAAARTAAAA at each other... and at any other unfortunate soul who wanders into hearing range. Watch them die beatifically, serene with the knowledge that these cradle-to-grave wards of a martial state died as FREE MEN(!).

It could be a good movie, if they'd tack an actual movie onto the front of it.

14. Grunts and Groans
Thank you for articulating my precise thoughts about 300. I thought I might be the only one not thoroughly impressed by what this movie had to offer.

Granted, the visual aspects of this movie are unsurpassed, but the dialogue is riddled with the same vapid colloquialisms one might expect from network teen dramas.

Perhaps the battle scenes, despite being heralded with "I've gotta remember that one for the office tomorrow" catchphrases and conducted with WWF-style bravado, are enjoyable if one looks at them as pure escapist entertainment. However, 300 never manages to transcend that level of artistry most satisfied with making 20-something guys grunt.

16. my husband said it was
sponsored by George Bush.

My 13 yo son said it wasn't historically accurate.

I think anything that glorifies death and mayhem is just wrong.

17. I started the "historically accurate" thread yesterday
And no, the fact that it wasn't accurate wasn't the main reason i disliked it.

I just thought it was boring

18. We just saw SIN CITY for the first time last night
Both of us were really, really impressed with the storytelling and the artistry. We're more likely to see 300 now, but we might just take it easy today and put it off until next weekend.

21. Very, very silly film
Historically inaccurate? Yeah, between the ninjas and the flashbombs and the giants and the mutants and the goatman and the guy with lobster claws, I think I can say with as much confidence as a layman can muster that it's historically inaccurate.

However, if you're looking for a fantasy film that combines the demented spectacle of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and the demented machismo of John Milius' Conan the Barbarian, you're in for quite a treat. The adult part of my brain was bored stiff, but the fifteen-year-old part of my brain had a great time. Two solid hours of cool battles and cool deaths and gross monsters and bare flesh.
